I'm Learning That Going to the Vet is not a Good Thing by Roxy

My mom got an email saying it was time for my comprehensive exam.  This was my second trip to the vet since I got adopted last August and according to the scale, I gained 8 pounds pushing my total weight up to 74!  I really don't care, but my mom was not happy and took it very seriously.

Yesterday when the temperatures finally got up to the mid 40s my mom took me on an exiting new walk that was about 1 1/2 hours.  I loved that, but then I learned I won't be getting six Busy Bones a week anymore.  When both my mom and dad go somewhere without me, they put me in my cage with a Busy bone and the yummy Wolf Wilderness frozen stew treat I love.  Today my mom read the Back of the Busy Bone bag and found out that for a 70 lb. and over dog, it should only get 3 a week.  Now I am only going to get ONE a week when they go to church on Sunday mornings and are gone almost three hours.  No more through the week when they just go to the Sr. Center for an hour exercise class.

My mom is actually happy about this because the bag is like $10 so now they will last much longer.  As you can see from my picture above, I am not fat.  I look forward to more long walks in new places with warmer weather coming soon.  I really like all the new sniffs when we go new directions.  I'll get those 8 extra pounds off in no time now that mom is cutting back on those busy bones.  I think I'm going to miss those.

The Bandage is Off--Now to Walk! (by Abby)

Buddy Bear Watching Over Me my First Day Without the Bandage!
I got my big bandage off and my left front leg is free again.  It's still bent up though from being bandaged up for 2 weeks and I can't really put any weight on it.  Gerard and Karen spent pretty much the whole day Saturday massaging it though and Karen is going to make some appointments for me to get some massage therapy and maybe even some laser therapy that the Dr. Walker highly recommended.  Any one out there ever have this?  It sounds like it will be a good thing to me.  Woof!  Karen and Gerard want to do all they can to help me recover as quickly as possible in case it does pop out, they will know they did all they could.

By the next day, I was able to straighten out my left front paw like normal and even walk using my front left leg for a bit!  Karen was very excited to see my progress when she gave me breakfast this morning.  Dr. Walker said everything is still in place and now it's up to me how fast I can strengthen my leg enough to walk normal again, but long walks are a thing of my past.  I will have to settle for short walks from now on.

I have great determination and can be very stubborn so that is really good news because I know I can do it!  I am very strong willed and love to walk so I plan to improve a little every day.  I still need the sling on so my mom and dad can give me support for four more weeks, but at least no more wrapping up the bandage in Suran wrap is needed.  Dad thought it was funny when Dr. Walker said my sling was better than the ones they had at the vet's!

Of course, we must take it slow.  Dr. Walker was sure to remind us that my shoulder could still pop out at any time.  Continued prayers for my full recovery would be greatly appreciated.  Woof!  Woof!

Great News From the Vet by Abby

At least I can still get belly rubs in spite of this big bandage!
This morning I went to the vet to make sure my shoulder didn't pop out again and it was still in place!  Plus, just to make sure it stays that way, I need to have the bandage on holding my front leg up for just one more week.  Karen was very happy to hear that because she thought I'd have to have it on six weeks!  I guess it will take that long to fully heal and I still have to be very careful.  No more long walks for me, but I'll be happy when I can at least do short walks again.  The vet said we will have to go very gradually.  I also pooped and peed on both my walks which made Karen and Gerard very happy and resulted in double treats for me!  Karen finally figured out that I would rather sleep in a little longer and go out a bit later, like two hours after breakfast instead of just one and she plans on taking a later bus to work that should get her there just in time.

Oh, and I had a new adventure today too!  I got to ride in the way back part of our Ford Escape for the first time!  It was so much easier for my daddy to get me in and out of the car from the back instead of the seat part.  My mom even put down her sleeping bag for me so I could be comfortable on a nice soft cushion even in the back.   Please keep asking God to make me all better, I know he can because he's healed me from much worse five years ago.  Woof!  Woof!

Good News: Update on Abby and Manny Boy

See how my front leg is all bandaged up so I can't use it?
It was such a relief when Abby finally pooped and peed after getting her dislocated shoulder popped back into place.  Yes, we have such an exciting life!  It happened yesterday afternoon when we took her out.  It is such a production to wrap the bandage in Suran wrap to keep it clean and dry and then get the sling on her so we can give her support to help her stand and walk.  She really is not supposed to walk at all, only to do her business and then right back inside.  Gerard said she's not going to poop just standing around, she has to move!  Apparently, he was right.

This is a two-person job so I am using some personal time off from work.  Fortunately my bosses approved my leaving at 2:30 every day for the next 5 weeks which is the estimated time we were given that it would take for Abby to recover from this.

It makes me so happy to watch our cat, Manny Boy eat again too!  It seems our vet nailed the problem:  dehydration and feeling nauseous.  The two hours at the vet on Monday seems to have paid off.  They gave him fluids, an injection to relieve his nausea and a little pill to stimulate his appetite.  They sent me home with some special wet critical nutrition food too and told me to try that if he wouldn't eat his regular thyroid food.  He really gobbled up the critical nutrition food--2 tablespoons.  We had a nice relaxing time together on the couch while he digested it.  Today he was back to eating his normal food!

Poor Abby, Oh God, Help Us!

Glad to be home but . . .
Somehow Abby dislocated her shoulder but we do not know when or how this happened.  We took her to the vet yesterday (not the way we hoped to spend our afternoon).  They did x-rays and fortunately, there are no broken bones and no fractures at least.  That was good news!  Also, although Dr. Walker never popped a dislocated shoulder in before, she gave it a try and was successful.  God answered that prayer--if she wasn't able to do it, we would have had to take her to an emergency clinic much farther from our home.  It is very fragile though and if it doesn't stay in, Abby will need surgery.  She stayed over night at the vet and we picked her up after church today.  We really missed her and are glad she is home.

As of now, it will take her at least 6 weeks to heal and she's all wrapped up and only has use of three legs.  We feel so bad for her and pretty helpless. She tries standing now and then but not for very long.  So far she has drank and eaten, but has not gone potty yet.  My husband will have to carry her outside down and up the steps for her to just go in our yard and then back in.  There will not be any walks at all for a while.  She had breakfast at 9:00 a.m. today instead of at 5:00 as usual with the pain pill that should be given every 12 hours.  This is not conducive to our normal eating schedule so it will disrupt our routine.  It looks like she'll be eating breakfast much later than usual and Gerard will have to feed her because I'll already be off to work.

We were told not to let the bandage get wet or dirty so will have to wrap it up in suran wrap before we take her out.  I haven't even tried to do that yet.  Well, I'm off to PetSmart to see if I can get a sling to help her stand long enough to go potty.

It's going to be a long six weeks but she's made it through worse than this before so hopefully she will do it again.  January is not a good month for our pets!

Meanwhile, Manny is not eating today and I am a basket case.  Prayers would be appreciated for all of us. I am so stressed out, have a hard time thinking straight.  I am seriously considering taking off work!

How I Spent My Day Off--Vet, Read, Shopped and TV

A Sleep Day for Manny Boy
We took Manny Boy to get his teeth cleaned today and sure enough, just as I suspected, he had to get two extracted.  So much for the $50 I saved on the dental cleaning this month.  Poor Manny.  I felt so bad for him not being able to eat anything after 6:00 p.m. last night or breakfast this morning.  He followed me all around wondering when I was going to give him breakfast.  I finished reading The Black Stallion Mystery while Manny kept coming on and off my lap.

Finally, I gave Spunky her breakfast before it was time to get Manny loaded into the carrier.  I put an empty bowl in his usual breakfast spot on the table and then when he looked at it, picked him up quick before he knew what was happening and dumped him gently into the carrier.

Off we went to the vet with Abby too for her vaccine and blood work at 8 a.m.  I am happy to report that Abby is fine, everything came back normal for her.

Abby was allowed in this store so we brought her along too!
After the vet, we went to Penney's to use my gift card.  I got socks but couldn't find any knee highs.  I also looked for an 8x10 picture frame, but think I could find cheaper ones at Marc's or Walmart so used the rest of my gift card on Gerard's Puma Tennis shoes.  I didn't get the call about extracting Manny's two teeth until 11:30 a.m. when we got back from Penney's.  Now I'll have to go get some soft food for him.

Back to Natural Pet Enrichment Center for more Pork Stew by Lotus Just Juicy and Weruva Meow Luau Mackerel/pumpkin.  The vet said to keep him on soft food for 14 days!  He should be given 3 cans a day, sure hope he likes it that much. That's a long time when he's used to getting only dry food.  I'll also get some Lotus Just Juicy Pollock Stew for Spunky Doodle--she really loved it last time.  The ladies at the store said I should rotate the flavors so they don't get accustomed to just one or grow tired of it.  They said they change it up for their cats and never give them the same kind two days in a row.

Gerard's new shoes, first time he got Puma!
When we got back from the pet store, I gave Spunky a can of the Pollock Stew and she gobbled it up.  Gerard went to put on his new shoes and found that plastic thing from the store still in them.  After waiting for about 10 minutes for a price check because they weren't in the system, the cashier forgot to remove it so back we went to Penney's.

Teeth cleaning is over $500 for the pets and I always wonder if it is really necessary.  I know bad teeth can cause lots of other problems in cats, so I guess it is.  I want to have my cats live long lives and if I hadn't taken Manny for his teeth cleaning, he probably would have other problems besides getting two teeth pulled.

I also had time this afternoon to blog, play some brain games, watched some of the Dan Patrick sports show and Judging Amy, and spend some quality time with Abby and Spunky Doodle.  Finally 4:30 came and I went to get my Manny Boy.  He is in a grumpy mood and his leg was wrapped up but at least he had clean teeth and the bad ones were out.  He didn't want anything to do with me though--if I came in the room where he was, he'd take off.  Can't really blame him.

Do you take your pets to get their teeth cleaned?  What kind of food do your cats like?

Vet Visit For Spunky Doodle - Good News and Bad News

Chunky Spunky at 13 lbs, March 2010
Jan. 2014 (perfect weight) when we started using the feeder toy to slow down her eating to keep her from regurgitating her food.

Spunky Doodle had to go to the vet today for her regular comprehensive exam and routine vaccines.  It's so hard to find the right amount of food to give her to keep her weight where it should be. I think I need to give Manny more to eat too because he's looking pretty thin as well.   In 2010 Spunky was way overweight, then I finally got her at 10 lbs, her perfect weight, but now she has lost too much.

Good News:

Today I am Skinny Spunky, just 7 lbs.
Spunky gets to eat more often because she lost too much weight now  (Spunky liked hearing this!)  I see more salmon and sardines in her future.  I knew she looked too thin!  No wonder she's always hungry, she's not getting enough to eat!

Her heart is strong, no arthritis, and clear lungs.

She was very good at the vet and even let them pet her furry stomach.

She got out of getting those shots today.

UPDATE 7/22/14:  Her blood work and stool sample results came back good!

The bad news is:

She has an ear infection in her right ear.  That means I have to squirt in some ointment once a day for 21 days!

We have to go back again in 21 days to see if she's gaining any weight from just being fed more food.  Hopefully she will and there are no other problems.  The ear infection should be cleared up by then too so she can get her shots then.

Going to the vet is so stressful and expensive.  Just the trip today without even the vaccines was over $300, but Spunky is worth it to us.  We hope to have her with us for another ten years!

Yay, I'm Forgiven!

My cat, Manny Boy, is back to his sweet loveable Mr. Nice Nice self.  When I got home from work the day after his dental cleaning, he greeted me at the door as usual and jumped up on the table to eat his supper.  Then jumped up into my lap when I was on the computer just like normal.  He laid on me while I watched two TV shows from the couch.  I'm so glad he is not holding a grudge.

When I went to pick up my cat from the vet, they made some mischief too by giving me this letter they actually wrote trying to make me think it was from my cat.  As soon as I got to the third sentence, I knew Manny did not write this:

Dear Family,

Thank you so much!

Today was a very big day for me!  The staff here was so caring and friendly I wasn't nervous at all!  They kept telling me how good I was being and that everything was going to be okay.  They told me that the injection they were going to give me was going to make me very sleepy and when I woke up my dental cleaning would be over!  It seemed like only a few minutes, and when I woke up I felt just fine.

They were always checking up on me making sure I was comfortable and warm which was nice.  They also told me that they had called to let you know that I was doing just fine and to see when you could pick me up!  I was so excited to show you my sparkling clean teeth!

Thank you for caring and taking such good care of me!  By keeping my teeth clean and healthy we can have a longer life together.
You are the best owner a pet could ever ask for!
It was cute and it did make me feel a little better about putting him through that, but I knew it wasn't really from him.  (See yesterday's post, "Mom's Up To Serious Mischief" for Manny's real thoughts.  I keep telling myself that it was worth over $500 if it extends his life.

Mom's Up To Serious Mischief by Manny Boy

I am so mad at my mom!
Yesterday I knew it was going to be a bad day when I didn't get my breakfast on time.  None only was it not on time, but I didn't get any at all!  Mom rattled the bag trying to get me upstairs where that pet taxi was and as soon as I saw dad in that room, I ran the opposite direction and hid behind a chair.  So did Spunky, but mom was really after me this time.

When I got downstairs and saw all the closed doors, I knew I had to hide quick.  Mom managed to pick me up and drop me into the pet taxi while dad held it.  It was two against one, not fair at all!  I was so cold when they brought me outside into the car.  Very uncomfortable!

My mom left me there at 7:45 a.m. the vet's all day!  I was so mad and hungry!  They poked me to get some blood to test and then after a few hours of being confined and ignored, they knocked me out while the head guy cleaned my teeth.  You know what mom and dad were doing while I was being tortured all day?  They went to see some movie called "DIVERGENT" and went out to lunch at CiCi's.  I must admit they did call before the movie to see when they could come and get me, but it was a long time.

I just slept while I waited to get picked up and I was happy to see mom again when she finally came at 4:45 p.m.  When I got home, I was not going to let her pet me and just went off to hide in the basement to be alone and rest from my horrible day.  I was glad when I heard mom looking all over the house for me and couldn't find me.  She had to get dad to help with the hunt and he finally found me behind a basement chair way in the corner.  Mom brought me a little bit of food, but I showed her.  I just walked away from it.

She tried again a couple hours later when I was in the den and by then, I couldn't resist any longer.  I was starved so ate it.  I woke her up around 2:00 a.m. to give me a night time snack too.  She put Spunky in the other room with the door closed so I could eat in peace without Spunky trying to get my food.  She's trying hard to be nice to me again.

What do you say?  Should I forgive her and be my nice affectionate self again, or hold out a bit longer?

Spunky Doodle's Vet Visit a Success!

I had to go to the vet for my routine checkup Saturday but got a very nice lady named Dr. Walker.  She did not give me any shots, congratulated me on losing one pound since our last visit and pet me a lot!  Then they cleaned a lot of gunk out of my ears.  She even said they should take a video of me to use as a promo to encourage people to take their cats to the vet too because I was so good!

Because me mom told them about my vomiting problem and everyone agreed it was just because I eat so fast because I am hungry, I got this new feeding toy.  The food goes inside and then as I bat it around, some drops out the holes in the side a little at a time.  It slows me down quite a bit, but it's kind of fun to play with.  I found if I just knock it off the table, a whole bunch tends to fall out that way.

The next day though, mom made it even tighter which made it too challenging for even me so I gave up and went to lay by the heater.  My mom actually brought the food toy down to me and made it a bit easier.  My sisfur, Abby Dabby Doo came over and watched me very closely the whole time I was eating.  I hissed at her when she came too close though because she is sneaky and I do not trust her not to take me food.  Then mom made her back up.

Spunky was taking so long, I just wanted to help her out.  I am very good at food puzzles.  Woof!  Woof!
Mom explained to Abby that the whole idea of this toy was to slow me down so it is okay for me to take it slow.  It took me about 20 minutes to get the food out, but this way I got more to eat than usual so that's a good thing.

Does anyone else have to work for their food?  I recommend this toy for any cat who eats too fast like I do.

What do you think, would I have taken Spunky's food?  Woof!  Woof!

A Very Grumpy Puss by Manny

Last Friday I knew something was up when our mom fed the dog but not us cats.  She was being very strange but still pet me, she just would feed me.  I was extremely hungry too because the day before I got a very early supper at 4:30 which, by the way, my dad gave me.  He NEVER feeds us cats, it's always mom.

All aboard the Pet Taxi!
Finally, about 8:00 a.m. she finally put just 3 pieces of food in my bowl and put inside the cage (I normally eat at 4:30).  She had been putting my food in there every day this week instead of my usual place on the table in the den.  I was starving so of course I walked right in for it only this time, she closed the door behind me and I was trapped!  This made me very agitated and I knew right away it was going to be a horrible vet day.

My good hiding place
Sure enough, I was transported to the vet to have my few teeth cleaned and they poked me, drugged me so I slept and wouldn't feel what they were doing, took x-rays and kept me there all day until 4:00 p.m. when my mom finally came back for me.  I was so upset, immediately went up to the den to hide under the desk and pout. Mom found me after about an hour though so then I went down to a dark corner of the basement to hide and it took a long time for her to find me there.  When she did, I gave her a big hiss and she left me alone.

I ignored her all evening but finally pounced on her early the next morning to wake her up.  I still ignored her though all morning, even though I did come out of hiding,

Got Certificate of Bravery and TREATS that I didn't check out until the next day.
By afternoon, I was back to being my normal Mr. Nice Nice, especially when I saw what she bought for us with the money and gift cards she got for Secretary's Day:

Yea, a second cat tree for us!
I tried out the top level too once Spunky got off.

AWW Mondays: Look What I Found!

Hey mom, please buy this big bowl of dog biscuits for me, Woof!  Woof!
Two weeks ago Bartels & Busack (our vet) had an open house to raise over $1,000 for three animal shelters.  There were lots of baked goods, mums, and raffles for gift baskets but Abby found this big bowl of dog biscuits.  She got a few free ones, but not the whole bowl.  We spent $6 and won a a $5 discount on our next trip to the vet.  They didn't make much on us.

Got My Teeth Cleaned by Manny

I knew something was up Monday when Karen didn't give me any breakfast! Boy, was I hungry too because she put away my food at 6 p.m. the day before. I tried my hardest to get into the treat bag that is on the computer desk, but I couldn't get it open.   Spunky was hungry too because she didn't get her breakfast on time either.  Mom waited until I was in the carrier to feed Spunky so I wouldn't get any.

When my mom finally threw in one little kibble of food into the carrier, I walked right in after it and then heard the gate close behind me. Oh no! I was off to the vet! I get grumpy when they poke and prod and invade my privacy. Do not like the vet--I think Abby is nuts for wanting to go up there all the time. Fortunately, they put me to sleep and I had a nice long nap while they cleaned my teeth. They gave me a certificate of bravery just like Spunky Doodle has.

When was the last time your were brave?  Do you get your cat's teeth cleaned too?

6 Things We Learned This Week 6 of 2012 (vet, computer, Tebow, funny, cats, feet)

Friday Fragments is hosted my Half-Past Kissin' Time for bloggers to post a list of short things on their minds that aren't really enough for a whole post. We like to share what we've learned each week.
  1. Vet Video of Abby

Bartels Busack Pet Hospital that took care of our dog, Abby, after she was attacked posted a video about her miracle recovery on their Facebook Page! Abby was so pleased she did a post about it: My Vet Made a Video of Me.
  2. Tim Tebow

After reading Tim Tebow's book, Through My Eyes, I learned several things about him I didn't know before: (1) He was born in the Philippines; (2) his dad is a preacher; (3) he grew up on a farm so is "farm strong.  In case you don't know, Tim Tebow is the Denver Broncos Quarterback who is not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ and gives God the glory. (4) You can play on school sport teams even if you are homeschooled.
  3. Moving Task Bar

This week our task bar that has "start" on it on our computer somehow showed up on the right side of the screen vertically instead of across the bottom of the screen where it belongs. This was annoying and I immediately emailed a couple of my techie blogging buddies for help. All I had to do was hold down a left click somewhere in the middle of it and drag it back to where it belonged. To lock it in place, you can right click on it somewhere in the middle of it and it gives you an option to "lock the task bar" which I did. Thanks for your quick response, Kathy at the Junk Drawer and Rebecca at The Older Geek.
  4. Laugh!

Did you know it's good to laugh every day? Kids laugh 10x more than adults do in one day--they have the right idea! I found This Should Put a Smile On Your Heart Today this week over at Jodi's Journey that made me laugh out loud.
  5. Spunky Doodle

    I'm Hungry, mom!
I have to put my lunch in the refrigerator because if I leave it on the kitchen counter, my cat, Spunky Doodle tears the bag open and will eat my bread! (More about her latest escapades in a post this week--she is feeling a bit neglected because Abby is getting so many posts lately.)
  6. Plantar Fascitis

I never heard of Planter Fascitis until a couple days ago when one of the attorneys I work for came limping into work. It's a pain in the arch of a foot due to inflammation of a ligament that runs along the arch. The doctor said it may have been caused by not having enough support from the shoe.

My Vet Made a Video of Me and I Got A New Harness by Abby

Today I wore my new harness for the first time when I walked with mom and dad to the mailbox. My mom got it for me from the Animal Rescue Site because my regular collar has a section of metal that she thought might hurt my neck if I pulled on the leash or if my daddy wanted me to go in a different direction. It's soft and does not bother my neck at all. I can wear my collar with my tags again with it. I just got most of my stitches out on Saturday (except for those by the hole by my back leg).  The good news is that the vet said I can go for 30-minute walks.  That's good because I have been anyway!

Unfortunately, I still have to wear the cone collar so I don't lick back there-hee, hee. I still manage to get at it and I even figured out how to get that clunky cone off!  Sometimes that bottom snap opens if I bang it against something hard enough and then I can slip out. The staff at Bartels and Busack were very happy to see me today. They all pet me up and were so impressed that I was walking so well and looking so good.  My blood work came back normal so I only have to take the antibiotic pills to keep my open hole from getting infected. They said my mommy and daddy did a good job with me too and that's why I made such good progress. They even made a video about me on their Facebook page: Abby's Story. Here it is:

I must say though that God is the one who gave those doctors the ability to put me back together and who healed me. My mom got people praying for my recovery that night and I know she and my dad both prayed very fervently for me to be okay and get better. She was so thankful that the vet was still there when she called and that a bunch stayed way past their normal working hours to save my life. It's good to have a good vet for a friend!

Woof!  Woof!  Thanks to everyone who prayed for me!  I am now a "miracle" dog!  Praise God!

On The Road To Recovery by Abby

I'm getting better, so happy daddy and mommy came to visit me!

I am more alert today so wanted to thank all of you kind people who are praying for me. I know Karen already wrote all about my being attacked but if you want to read the gory details, go see the post right before this one called Our Sweet Dog, Abby is Fighting for her Life. It was very scary and I don't know why those two big dogs didn't like me. I wasn't even by their house!

Karen told me there are lots of people praying for me and that God will help me get better. I ate today for the first time but it wasn't food I am used to. It was some soft brown mushy stuff but I didn't have to chew it. My humans will be bringing me supper tonight with my normal food.

I have pain patches which give me relief all through the day. I was so excited to see my mom and dad this morning that as soon as the gate to this cage I am in was open, I sat up and started coming out but they told me to stay. The doctor removed that big clunky round thing from my neck so that Karen and Gerard could pet me better. They were allowed to stay and visit me much longer than they did yesterday too. I can't go home with them yet but if I can't be home, Bartels is my favorite place away from home. Lots of people love me here and visit me. Karen and Gerard brought me a couple of their shirts with their scent to comfort me and to let me know they are constantly thinking of me and love me so much. I know they do.

I peed outside today and hopefully will poop soon too. I can't go home until I do but that gives me incentive. I was able to stand up on my own and walk a little bit but won't be able to do stairs for awhile and it will be a long time before I'll be able to enjoy long walks again. I was really hurt bad, but I did walk to the car when Karen came to the scene of the crime. Even though I was in lots of pain, I didn't growl or strike out in any way at the people who were helping me. Karen and Gerard both keep telling me what a good dog I am and how proud they are of me. I love hearing that!

I am sad that Gerard got hurt too trying to protect me. His hand is all wrapped up and hurts him a little bit. It hurt a LOT when that mean dog chomped down on him. It's the hand he uses most too so I don't know if he'll be able to lift me in and out of the house and handle the door and all or not once I get home. Karen didn't have her camera this morning so she'll post an updated picture of me on here later she said.

Thanks again for praying for all of us--it will be a long road to full recovery, but I think I can do it! I'll give it my very best! Hope you never have to experience this--it was definitely NOT a good adventure.

Thursday Was "Be Mean To Spunky Day?" by Spunky Doodle (AWWW Mondays)

See patch of fur missing on my right leg?
Last Thursday Karen acted very strange so I KNEW something was up, just didn't realize how bad it would be! I've been having a rough few weeks and Thursday was THE WORST! For three weeks, Karen has been trying to clean out my right ear since the vet said there was some bacteria in it and it looked like I might have a slight ear infection.

At supper time, first she stuck a cotton ball in my right ear with Epi-Otic Advanced solution on it and spun it all round. I let her do this though because I was hungry and knew I would get my food afterwards. But then, before my second helping a few minutes later, she stuck in a pointy thing and squirted Dermalone Ointment which always startled me. On Thursday, I got the bad news that she has to keep doing this but wait longer between the cleaning and the squirting. My ear wasn't cleared up at all! All that for nothing because she didn't wait long enough between cleaning and squirting!

But wait, that's not all. I had to get my teeth cleaned.  I knew something was up when I didn't get any breakfast.  I always get breakfast at 4:50 a.m. but not Thursday.  Is it any wonder I didn't want to go into that carrier? Do you blame me? I was so hungry!  She shoved me in and off we went early in the morning.  You can see it all on this video called "The Cat Carrier Challenge" (I actually evaded longer than this, but Karen edited some out for you).

Visiting A New Vet For Abby, Spunky and Almost Manny

We have a very good vet who gives a multi-cat discount but is bout half an hour's drive away and always has a full waiting room. You have to call about a month ahead to get an appointment there too and the whole reason we went there was because Dr. Hart is so nice. That's the vet who saved our Moe by getting him to eat on his own again after force feeding him at her own house for a week! The last few times we went though, we didn't get her so we decided to look for a closer vet to cut down on the stress to our kitties.

We decided to try the Broadview Bird and Animal Hospital. Abby seemed to like it and did quite well. She was a hit with everyone except for one little growly dog that kept growling at her. There were a lot of birds--big colorful parrots! Abby didn't express any interest in any of them. We got a 3-month supply of heartworm medicine and some "greenies" that she liked to keep her teeth in good shape. The vet gave her a small biscuit treat too so she was happy, wagging her tail with the dental chew in her mouth as she left. She also lost some weight since we got her going from 55 pounds to 48 so that was good too. We were told to just keep doing what we're doing. Abby wrote about her vet visit in her Dogster Diary at "My Trip To The Vet Was Fun.

Yesterday it was the cats' turn. Manny decided he wasn't going and I could not get him into the carrier so just took Spunky Doodle and off we went. I am actually glad Manny didn't come because the vet said it wasn't necessary for him to come since the annual shot wasn't that important and he still had two years left on his rabies shot. Whew! He saved me $97! Yes, the wellness exam, stool analysis and the annual shot for Spunky Doodle came to $97.00! Oh, and the exam involved petting Spunky, and looking at her ears. I don't recall her even checking her teeth but was happy she said I didn't have to bring Manny. Of course, he wrote about this on his blog at "No, No, I Wont Go!" which you might enjoy read.

I did a price comparison with another vet place nearby and it came out the same but they didn't even have the heartworm medicine there but said they could order it. Maybe we'll be sticking with Dr. Hart after all. I have one more area one I'd like to check out first. What a hassle!!
