6 Things I Learned This Week--Part 50

Paddle Tennis

Ever hear of paddle tennis. One of the attorneys where I work was limping along with a cane so I asked him what happened. He said he tore a muscle playing paddle tennis. It's like tennis but with these variations: the court is about 2/3 the size of a tennis court, the ball is harder and a paddle with holes is used instead of a racquet. The court is gritty to give players traction. I never heard of this game before, have you?

Protect the Paws

Over at Modern Mom, I learned that medicated lip balm applied to the dog's paws acts as a barrier between its paws and the ice and snow and helps heals any minor cuts or scrapes.

Blogger vs. Wordpress

Over at Mama Kat's this week she made the switch to Wordpress and posted a detailed post about the benefits with some helpful links to other posts. The seed has been planted. If you're thinking about possibly switching, check out Tutorial Time: Wordpress vs. Blogger.

Turtle Pretzels

Thanks to Sweet Simplicity I found a recipe that looks really, really yummy over at Our Best Bites--Easy Pretzel Turtles made with rolos, nuts and small pretzels.

Joshua Cribbs

Joshua Cribbs (my favorite Browns player) has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in the Browns' win over the Steelers last Thursday.

Harley Won!

Harley (Daisy the Curly Cat's brother) WON Catster's World's Coolest Cat competition in the Stretch & Yawn category! Stop by to see his winning photo and congratulate him at his "How Does THAT Work."

Thank you for that recipe, it looks great!

I had heard of paddle tennis, but had forgotten that I heard about it until you mentioned it. ;)

Good to know that medicated lip balm helps protect doggy paws - I better pick some up today, we're supposed to get snowed in tomorrow! :)

I've been waffling back and forth about switching over to Wordpress - now I'm going to look into it more seriously.

Happy FF! :)

Somehow I thought paddle tennis was the same thing as Ping Pong!

Harley was thrilled about his big win. Just a couple days before, we had canceled our Catster Plus membership to save some green papers, and it turns out that one of the prizes is a free Catster Plus membership!

That is a great tip for animal paws I will remember this for my own lil 4 leggy baby

Congrats on Harleys win as the coolest cat-that is awesome!

Blogger is easy to use...Wordpress isn't. Not for me anyway. Wordpress has lots of great features though.

Have a terrific day and weekend Karen. :)

Thanks Karen and belated happy birthday!

Take care. :)

I hadn't heard about lip balm on paws before. Very interesting but what a mess all over the house!

Hmm... lip balm on the paws? That's a handy tip!

Paddle ball sounds similar to racquetball, but I'm not sure about that paddle with holes in it. Intriguing.

I've been wondering if it might be worth the trouble to switch to Word press. I'm definitely going to check out that post. Thanks!

What is the easiest way to take apart the rubber from my table tennis paddle?

Yup, I know about paddle tennis. I played it when I was young. As to Wordpress, I hear it's fantastic but I've gotten so used to blogger but who knows sometimes change and learning new things is good.
Congratulations to Harley. That's exciting news.
If you don't want to use lip balm because it is expensive, they make special jars of stuff for dog's paws to protect them from slipping and salt or you can use boots which will last forever.

Well I'd never heard of paddle tennis either. It kinda sounds like it's be some huge version of ping pong!

That's fun that Harley won... great category too! I think I'd be good at that one *L*

Thank you for all the great information. I have wondered if I should switch to Wordpress, but I am concerned about losing my followers that use the follower widget/blogger. So I am still kind of waffling back and forth on it too. Your blog does look great though, I really love the layout and look of it!

If you haven't noticed I followed your link and read the wordpress article and came back and thought you had switched to wordpress too. I just noticed it says blogspot up there. My mistake. That is what not enough sleep will do! Your blogger blog does look great though, the layout reminds me a lot of some of the really nice word press ones I have seen. :)

I've never heard of paddle tennis. I was so intrigued I had to google it, now I know all about it ;-) (Not really, I only read the wikipedia article!)

I used Wordpress to set up a blog for the kids' school Parents and Citizens Association. You can do so much more with Wordpress than Blogger, if I ever get around to using my mimbles.com domain to host my personal blog I'll definitely make the switch from Blogger and now I know just where to go to get all the hints and tips I'll need!

Happy belated FF :-)

4 Letter Words, DysFUNctional Mom: I MAY even try making these!

Ruthi: Glad I can be of assistance! This is my most popular type post and I've been able to do one every week this year.

Stacy & Eve & Yaya & Carolee: Good luck on switching over to Wordpress if you decide to forge ahead with it.

Daisy: Table Tennis is another name for ping pong. Great for Harley, what good timing!

Georgie: Hope the lip balm works for your pet.

Angelia & Mub: I visit his blog every day so feel like I know him personally!

Mommytoalot: Enjoy the new recipie--looks good and easy too! The more you blog, the more you learn.

Mountain Woman: Wow, that's a surprise to me that you used to play Paddle Tennis. I never heard of it before. Abby is getting boots for Christmas this year but I doubt if they'll stay on. Sometimes she even manages to get her jacket off!

Sandee: Thanks for the tip--looks like I'll stay with Blogger then because I like easy!

Modern Mom: You're welcome and thanks!

Beaded Tail: I didn't realize it might make a mess around the house as it rubs off.

Eve: Racquetball is very different--you play off the walls. It's a blast and a great stress reliever because all you can think about is that ball coming at you--I played in college and really liked it a lot!

SEO Company: Ours just wears off.

Jennifer: Ana designed my layout for me at Chica & Pumuckl. She stopped blogging several months ago though and I don't think she's doing it anymore. I have no clue how to do this. As far as your followers go, I followed Mama Kat before she switched over and when she switched, my link still worked.

Mimbles: Wow, I inspired you to learn more! Glad I could be of help pointing you to a great WordPress article.

Never heard of paddle tennis!

Blogger vs. Wordpress is intriguing. I like the idea of owning my own content, but I don't like the chopped-up look of so many Wordpress pages, and I like having my entire post on one page (vs. continuing it on another page.) I will have to do some more homework before deciding to make that change. Thanks for the links!

Congrats to your kitty!!

Hey, possibly this post is not on topic but in any event, I have been browsing about your site and it looks really neat. It is easy to see I am creating a new blog and I am struggling to make it look great, and supply excellent subject matter. I have learned a lot here and I look forward to additional updates and will be returning.
