Voting Is Hard Work!

I don't listen much to the news or read the newspaper, especially no political articles because I just do not like politics. However, when I saw how many choices are on the ballot for the upcoming primary election, I felt it only right to try to find out about the candidates to vote responsibly. I actually went through the whole ballot and either googled the names or looked them up on Wikipedia. I also searched for voters guide and found some information about the candidates that way. (We vote by mail so get our ballot ahead).

I was glad I did because several of my initial choices I ended up changing. There was even one presidential candidate that I really liked! Usually, it's just voting for a lesser of two evils. Now, I imagine you are wondering who it is that I am so excited about voting for. I'll give you a hint: he's a republican and his first name is Rick.

I am not posting this to influence your vote one way or the other though. My intent is simply to encourage you to seriously check out the candidates before you vote for them. Don't just assume that a male judge would be better than a female judge so vote for the male. Another word of caution, don't just automatically vote for a familiar name--please look into the other choices as well so you can be an informed voter. Voting is certainly a privilege but also a responsibility that we have as citizens of the United States.

(50 cents per legitimate comment goes to Caroline's Kids Pet Rescue for February in honor of cat appreciation month!)

Time Is Running Out--Please Vote!

Canine Lifeline Saved My Life!

Have you voted for Canine Lifeline yet over at www.dogtipper.com? Please do and vote often. It is very close between three organizations, the lead goes back and forth every day! The winner will be announced July 1, that's Friday! Please go and vote often! It is easy, no registration or sign in required. Just click on "Canine Lifeline" and the vote button at the bottom of the list. Every vote counts, it's that close! The winner gets $1,000 donation from Pedigree--that can help save a lot of dogs.

Canine Lifeline is an organization that rescues dogs from shelters that are scheduled to be put down. They use foster homes to take in the dogs to give them longer to find them good homes. They have saved over 300 dogs throughout Ohio and Kentucky since it started in 2009. This is how we got Abby! She was scheduled to be put down because she was in an overcrowded shelter. She is a wonderful dog and it would have been so sad had Barb, one of the founders of Canine Lifeline, had not rescued her to give her extra time for us to find her.  Visit their website at www.caninelifeline.org to donate, see what other dogs are available or provide a foster home.

Which Bargain Do You Like Best? Vote Now

This is a follow-up to our What A Bargain post for Writer's Workshop. We had such a good response in the comments from others sharing their bargains, I thought it would be fun to take a vote to see which bargain is considered the best by our readers. Take a look at the post and comments and then vote only once in a comment to this post for the bargain or bargain story you like best. In an effort to show some appreciation to those leaving great comments on this post, I will send the top vote-getter an autographed copy of my book, My Funny Dad, Harry if they would want it.  That's a bargain!

Here are the bargains that were mentioned:

King Sized bedspread from Sears (Karen & Gerard)
Alarm Clock from Radio Shack(Clarissa Draper)
Framed Prints from Target (Kari)
Twin Insurance from Sears (Daisy)
"Wicked" Tickets from hotel in Jersey City (Paula Kiger)

UPDATED 10/17/10: Congratulations to Paul Kiger, the winner! She has been notified and said I made her day! I love when I can make someone's day!

Vote For An Animal Shelter

The Animal Rescue Site is giving money to shelters each week through December 20. When you click on the Animal Rescue Site, another screen pops up that says your click was counted. At the top in red letters is a button that says vote for a shelter. Here is your chance to vote and help a shelter win some money. The two I vote for are the Parma Animal Shelter which is where we got our first cat from and which helped us save him when he was very sick and the second is Kitten Krazy which is run by a friend of mine in Medina, Ohio. You can vote once a day. Please vote for one you are familiar with or one of these that I mentioned.

Terrific Tuesday--Nice Day, Good News, Off Work!

Yesterday was a very good day for us. First off, we both decided to take off the whole day from work since the forecast was good and it was voting day.

We slept in, then went out for a buffet breakfast at Eat-n-Park which was very good. The good news in the Cleveland PLAIN DEALER this morning said that Brady Quinn will be the starting Quarterback for the Browns this Thursday night--yippee! I think it's time. Then we went to PetSmart form more Temptations treats, kitty litter & cat food and GNC for a new supply of Amplify (our protein drink).

We walked up to our voting place at 11:00 and although it was crowded, no one was in line for our ward so we were in and out in just 10 minutes. We think we made a wise decision taking the day off so we didn't have to rush before or after work when it would be more crowded. I was surprised when I looked at the ballot to see so many names running for President! All I ever heard anything about was McCain and Obama. I think this is just plain WRONG! I wish every candidate would get the same amount of money to spend on their campaign and not have to rely on using their own money or contributions from businesses, organizations or individuals. I had no idea all these other people were running. Why was this kept from me? I feel cheated and manipulated!

Anyhow, the sun was shining and the temperature was warm so we headed off to the zoo next. Much of it was blocked off already for the winter but we still enjoyed it. The Red Panda was just so cute. One was curled up with it's head tucked into it's fur and a paw over his eye while the other little one was walking back and forth on a log in the opposite corner. After blogging a bit, we went up to Dunkin Donuts where we each got a free donut for voting today.
