Blessing Of Doggies and Dog Walk

Yesterday we took Abby up to the Parma Animal Shelter's adopt-a-thon. They had a bake sale, food, lots of prizes they raffled off and for $5.00, you could get your dog blessed by a Priest on the tennis courts next door, participate in their dog walk and get a goodie bag filled with dog toys and treats. Abby had a great time meeting lots of other dogs and it was fun for us being with so many dog lovers!

I counted about 25 dogs that participated in the dog walk and animal blessing. Abby's tail was going the whole time and had a big smile! I hope you enjoy the video. I know it's kind of long, but I wanted to show all the nice dogs that came out for this event. I was very surprised that the dogs were not barking constantly. We were very proud how Abby walked right with Gerard very nicely and did not bark at any other dogs, just sniffed.

We are so glad we decided to get a dog and look for the perfect dog for us on Petfinder. Maybe it's time you checked out what's available. If you can afford the food, treats, and vet care, a dog is a wonderful addition to a household.

6 Things I Learned This Week-#74

Just A Phone

Did you know there is a cell phone that is actually just a phone which is all we need and there's no contract! It's called the Jitterbug. Gerard found an ad for it this week. You can place and receive phone calls--that's it. The price is a little over half of what we are currently paying for our Sprint phones. When our contracts are up, we are planning to switch.

Blogging With Video

Did you know most people take time to watch videos on blogs? Thanks to my poll on here asking if you watch videos on blogs, I learned that out of the 16 who responded, 5 usually watch, 10 watch sometimes and 1 rarely. I guess it is worthwhile to post them. What do you think about them? Do you post videos on your blog? Do you make your own or just copy someone else's?  We listed some of our better videos on the right sidebar for your convenience.

Did you know you can use a Google Alert to find posts that mention certain words? The Red Sox

Did you know May was a very good month for the Red Sox? they got back in the race and as of June 1 they are just 5 games behind. The offense is not as bad as some predicted and "Big Pappi" is heating up. How do you feel about your favorite baseball team?

Money Museum

Did you know there is a Learning Center and Money Museum free to the public inside the Federal Reserve Bank in downtown Cleveland? I just noticed it this week and decided to check it out. I don't know if all of them have a Learning Center and Money Museum or not.

Where's Coke Bear's Hat? (Writer's Workshop)

We have a stuffed bear that sits in a red wagon that says "Coke" on it. The bear has a little red hat that is removable. This is a very special bear because it's very old and we've never seen another like it anywhere.

Gerard noticed the hat was missing and immediately blamed Spunky Doodle because she's known to play with things and then doesn't put them back. Well, he looked around for it and was getting more and more angry. I helped him look and found it across the dining room almost under a table.

The next morning, while I was getting my breakfast, Manny comes walking by with Coke Bear's hat in his mouth! I thought it was so funny that we blamed Spunky Doodle, when here it was probably our man cat, Manny!



Poor Spunky, she gets blamed for everything!

My New Pink Hat--What A Nice Surprise!

Look at my new hat that came in the mail for me from Lucky Lady. She is a two-time Cancer survivor who I recently sponsored in the walk for life relay. I have a very tiny head and the adjustable strap is practically all the way over to the smallest setting.  I've received a few compliments on it and wear it proudly.

Our Favorite Reads For May: "The Last Child" & "The Last Stand"

Karen's Favorite: The Last Child by John Hart
The Last Child by John Hart had my attention all the way through.  It's a novel about Johnny, a very brave 13-yr-old boy who conducts his own private investigation when his twin sister turns up missing.  With his help, Detective Hunt eventually finds her and figures out what happened as well as solving the disappearance of another missing girl.  I liked this book because the ending caught me by surprise and I was right there trying to figure out what happened along with the detective.  I felt bad for Johnny and was pulling for him and his mom throughout the book.  His faith in God was shattered, but restored in the end.  This book deals with abuse, law enforcement issues, friendship and dealing with grief. 

Gerard also read this one and liked it. Here's what he thought of it:
One of the Best Books I’ll Read This Year!

The Last Child by John Hart is fiction. It’s about Johnny Merrimon whose twin sister was abducted. Johnny thinks he can find her and then their family will go back to being together again. I really liked this book. All the characters are very believable as is the story line. I did not see the ending coming at all! The Last Child rocks! It’s a can’t put down thriller!


Gerard's Favorite: The Last Stand by Nathaniel Philbrick
I always enjoy reading books on history that I'm not well versed on and this book is no exception. It tells the story of Custer, Sitting Bull and the battle of the Little Big Horn. The writing is superb. You really get the sense of what went on and what led up to the battle. This book will easily make my top ten books of the year! It's a great read!
