Me At a Tea Party?

Yes, believe it or not, I went to my first tea party on Friday with my "Circle of Friends" group from church at our leader's home and had a fun time. We wore our big silly hats. I bought this hat a long time ago with a gift card I received from one of my bosses. I just thought it would be fun to have a big fancy hat and I finally had a chance to wear it.

The table settings was just beautiful! She had two tables set with a teapot at each place. My favorite one was the one with the birds on it (the one in the picture at the top right corner of the table above). Although I am not a tea drinker, I had iced peach tea which was good. We also had cute fruit cups made from oranges, chicken salad sandwiches, a cabbage-orange-pineapple concoction that was so good I had a second helping, pickles and cheesecake.

During our meal an uninvited guest crashed our little party and went buzzing around the light fixture! We screamed at the bee and it went into the kitchen. Our group leader's husband came to the rescue from the basement when he heard us scream and managed to kill the bee in the kitchen. I hate bees so was very thankful he was able to kill it.

The cats were outside for most of the time, but I spoke on their behalf and they were allowed in for a little time at the end of the evening. Unfortunately, I didn't think to get a picture of them to include here but they are both beautiful, plump cats--Sasha and Pumpkin.

Here's a picture of some of the women wearing their fancy hats at the other table. We had a wonderful time!  Did you ever go to a tea party?

That Was Awkward (Writers Workshop)

I went to the shortest graduation party ever last Sunday.  I left at 3:30 and got home by 4:00!  The party was only about three minutes away from our house which was for two sisters but I only knew one of them.  It had just finished pouring rain and so when I got there, everyone was inside, all 9 adults and a couple little kids.  I brought a card but they weren’t expecting any so didn’t have any designated spot.  Someone brought over a cardboard box and said I could put it in there, but I was afraid it would be tossed out by mistake.  After all, I had included a check in the card so really wanted some assurance the graduate would get it.  I couldn’t give it to her myself because she was out of town and missed her own party!

I only knew one person there, the younger sister so chatted with her some.  I did enjoy meeting their two dwarf cats who came over for me to pet them, the highlight of the party.  They were normal size except had very short legs.  I never saw cats like that before and liked petting them up.  Their fur was very soft and fluffy.  The mother kept telling me not to feel like I had to stay so I left after about 20 minutes before the burgers were even grilled.  I stood the whole time because it wasn’t a big place and I figured I wasn’t going to stay very long.

I’m not sure who felt more awkward though, me or the hostess.  It was just strange.

This is in response to Mama Kat's Workshop prompt to write about an awkward moment.

Halloween Party For Dogs

Bartels & Busack Pet Hospital and Spa actually had a Halloween party for pets! When we heard about this, we just had to go with Abby. We just put the Halloween owl scarf on her that she got from her spa day the day before and off we went. It was fun! We were greeted by staff who were in costumes taking pictures of all the pets as they arrived. It was a bit chaotic and dogs were all excited and some barking, some shaking but Abby was wagging her tail the whole time and just enjoying meeting all the other doggies.

They had a huge bake sale but we didn't have any cash with us so didn't buy anything there which was probably a good thing. Abby got a couple biscuit treats as she followed the treat lady and wouldn't leave until she got something. She was very friendly and as we were leaving, one of the staff took another picture of her and Gerard outside.

Here is Abby's post about it: My First Halloween Party

Now we are heading out to our church's Fall Festival to help run a game and give out candy to the kids. As of last of Sunday they still needed 800 bags of candy which the congregation donates. The kids have a lot of fun and I enjoy seeing all the cute costumes.
