My Husband's Favorite Reads In June

My husband had read three books in June that he loved!  One was based on a true story and the other two are both by Sally Hepworth.  Below are his reviews on these favorites:

Three Sisters by Heather Morris is based on a true story.  Three sisters make a pact to always stay together and be there for each other, but when two of them are sent to a concentration camp by the Nazis, that pact is put to the test.  Will they survive to see their sister again?  This book is really good!  The parts about the concentration camp are very powerful!  I loved all the three sisters and liked the very good ending!  

 

The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth, Gabe and Pippa's house is near a cliff where people sometimes go to end their lives.  Gabe has a way of talking people off that cliff.  However, one day with Pippa watching, a woman and Gabe talk until the woman is falling off that cliff!  To Pippa, it looks like Gabe pushed her, but she doesn't really believe it!  Could he have?  Sally Hepworth is always good, but this book is fantastic!  The characters are really good and I thought I knew how it would end, but I was wrong!  LOVED THIS ONE!  

In The Mother's Promise by Sally Hepworth, Alice is a single mother who has a 15-yr.-old daughter, Zoe.  When Alice gets sick with Cancer, she is told that she needs a support person to help her and drive her around.  Unfortunately, she has no one except Zoe to count on.  Kate, a nurse, and Sonja, a social worker come to her aid, but they are dealing with their own problems.  This book is really good!  All the characters seem real.  I especially loved the parts with Zoe!  This is Sally's best book yet!  I LOVED IT!  

      Unfortunately, for me, I didn't read any books in June that is was thrilled with so hopefully, maybe I'll do better in July.  You can see all our book reviews at Grab A Book from Our Stack.

Internet Security

Over at Mama Kat's Losin' It I read a blog post about Internet security and found that we should not use our real full names on our blog--oh well, oops. We really need to change the title of our blog and would like your help--it's boring anyway. We will keep our URL the same so it shouldn't affect any links you have to our blog. At least that is how I understand it. Please correct me if I'm wrong about this. Be sure to cast you vote in our poll on our left sidebar near the top.

Browns

Browns linebacker, Bowens, was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week! He returned two interceptions for touchdowns last Sunday. Abby watched the game with me and wrote all about it at Who Let The Dogs Out?

Tidbits From Who Switched Off My Brain

Just to give you a sampling of some things I learned by reading Who Switched Off My Brain?: Laugh and play every day, exercise, take time alone for prayer, love others no matter what, forgive freely, don’t eat when angry, touch, and root of stress is fear.  Evaluate every thought, the left and right brain work together and each process every thought differently.

I was surprised to learn from USA TODAY this week that out of 43,321 teens surveyed, 47% had been bullied, teased or taunted in a way that seriously upset them at least once the past year.

Our Favorite Reads For August

Gerard's Favorite:

One Dog at a Time--Saving the Strays of Afghanistan by Pen Farthing

One Dog At A Time by Pen Farthing is about a true hero.  This is an outstanding true story of Pen Farthing, a royal marine serving in Afghanistan.  One day he came upon a stray dog and just knew he had to do something to help that dog.  I really enjoyed this book A LOT.  This is a page turner that I did not want to put down.  I got into it quick and stayed to the end.

Mr. Farthing, I thank you for your service and God bless you and your wife for the great things you are doing for these dogs.  Thanks for sharing your wonderful story with us--you are a true hero! (6+ stars)

Just Take My Heart by Mary Higgins Clark

WOW! Just Take My Heart by Mary Higgins Clark is full of suspense and true-to-life characters. It’s a murder mystery because although the husband, Greg Aldrich, is on trial for killing his wife, Natalie, he claims he didn’t do it. It is a high profile case that is discussed every evening on the show, “Courtside” which is hosted by Greg’s best friend.

Emily, the prosecuting attorney, goes after a conviction even though she has some doubt about the defendant’s guilt. She has a soft spot for him when she sees his mother-in-law and his daughter and discovers there may be some tampering of the evidence in her case. As if that’s not enough, Emily is in danger herself when a serial killer moves in next door to her and stalks her. Emily’s husband was killed in Iraq and she never remarried so lives alone with her dog, Bess. I found parts even humorous when the serial killer loved to watch the show, “Fugitive Hunt” to see if he was featured.

I loved how Emily discovers the truth and the surprise twist at the end, although the ending seemed very abrupt. There is so much more I’d like to say, but don’t want to ruin it for you. Most of the book focuses on the trial and is not gory. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes suspense and murder mysteries.

A Book With No "e"

Kathy from the Junk Drawer shared about a novel, "Gadsby," written by Ernest Vincent Wright without using the letter "e." By accident I discovered that in Blogger if you put a link in the box under your post title when writing your post, the Link Within posts are the ones on the other place that you linked to. When I found the inspiration for posting about my piano experience, I copied the link to a draft post until I was ready to write it and forgot to take it out. When it posted, the link within posts at the bottom were all from the blog I had linked to. When would you ever want to link your post title to something else?
