6 Friday Fragments

Friday Fragments is hosted my Half-Past Kissin' Time for bloggers to post a list of short things on their minds that aren't really enough for a whole post. Here we go:

1. Shakespeare Made Easy

   While reading about Tony Danza's rookie year of teaching 10th grade English, I learned there is a website that actually gives modern English versions of Shakespeare's works. He used it to help him teach that unit. I was curious so checked out No Fear Shakespeare and found it also includes some other literature as well.

2. Note Card Pary

   This week I found just what I need, another blog hop! [sarcasm] This one though is just the third Wed. of the month so I think I may participate next month. All you do is choose for of your own pictures that you think would look good for note cards. This is hosted at A Haven for Vee.

3. Giveaway

   I entered a cat t-shirt giveaway at the Conscious Cat. Hope I win the ADOPT shirt that says "Those who say money can't buy happiness never paid an adoption fee." It was between that one and "Real Men Love Cats."

4. No Easy Day

   No Easy Day is The NEW YORK TIMES No. 1 book: the true story of the soldier who killed Bin Laden. My husband is looking forward to reading it.

5. NFL Tickets

   The average price of an NFL ticket is $77.36 (for 8 home games and two pre-season games). I'll stick with the Direct TV NFL Sunday ticket where I can see all the games for $300 payable in 6 installments.

6. Soda Pop in NYC

   New York City has put a ban on 20 oz. soda pop drinks. No big deal to us since we live in Ohio and Gerard prefers 12 oz. cans anyway.

8 Things We Learned This Week 17 of 2011 (computer, blogging, exercise, fun)

Walking

I joined Gerard and Abby on their 4-mile plus "Sunoco" walk last Saturday and found out I could do it just fine, but then, it was a very nice day! Here's the link to Abby's 4-mile Spring Walk video I made of our walk that we plan to post here May 1 with Abby's Walking Club Challenge participants.

Snapshot Meme

I just discovered a Saturday Snapshot meme hosted by At Home With Books.

Word Processing

I was able to install a free word processing program from www.openoffice.org but still can't open my other documents. Good thing I had the important ones backed up. It took an hour to install, but now I feel much better. Still don't have my picture editing Kodak software back though.

Stressed Cats

I learned that boredom is a cause for stress in cats and there are many signs of stress--some I knew, some I didn't. Check out Stress Awareness In Cats to learn all about this at The Conscious Cat.

Favorite Blog Header

Mrs. 4444 made my day when she left the following comment on our Friday Fragments post over at Grab A Book From Our Stack: Your header is my current favorite in Blogland--GORGEOUS! Christ Arose! Happy Easter Monday!

I told you there were a lot of good Easter hymns! This is one of the most fun ones to sing because it starts out so slow and serious and winds up so quick and fun! All these videos are the same song, but each has a special quality that makes them stand out. The first is a small choir that reminds me of my small church that I grew up in and attended for years.  If you don't want to watch all of them, just skip to the last one--it's the cutest of all and will make you smile!







This video is a sweet little girl singing it without any accompaniment for her aunt. I loved it!







These three little boys are so cute and I can't help but share their enthusiasm. If you skipped watching the first two, please take time to view this one! I guarantee it will make you smile!

Karen, An Author?

I just wrote my first book last year about my dad and me right after he died called My Funny Dad, Harry. I am married to Gerard, a wonderful husband, and have a cat, Spunky Doodle. I love teaching a 5th grade boys Sunday School class and am on the puppet team at Parma Heights Baptist Church. I like playing tennis, bowling, watching sports on TV, playing games on www.pogo.com, participating in forums on My Space (www.myspace.com/kzemek), Shelfari (www.shelfari.com/kzemek), Goodreads (www.goodreads.com) and obviously judging by my book shelf on here, reading. I also like taking pictures and have some posted on viewbug.com and photobucket.com. Sometimes I sell items on eBay.

I never planned to become an author, but here I am! Please be kind. I just wrote My Funny Dad, Harry as a memorial to my dad after he died this past February. I just had so many thoughts about him racing through my head at night that I couldn't sleep, so decided to write about him. I realized what a wonderful dad he really was and how amazing as well as funny. Growing up, I always thought my parents were funny (as do most kids, I expect), and often said they should have a TV comedy show called the "Mom and Pop" show.

Playing the Free Kibble trivia game, I learned that cats need to eat twice as many calories in real cold weather. That explains why they are eating less lately!

Blogger--All My Blogs Listed On One Dashboard

I finally learned this week how to get "My Funny Dad, Harry" blog to show up on the same dashboard as my other two. I just had to add this blog as an additional author to "My Funny Dad, Harry." It was separate because I accidentally created this blog separately. I discovered when I created my book blog "Grab A Book From Our Stack" recently, that I can create it from my Dashboard and then it will show up in a list and I can easily move from one to another without having to sign out and in again. Hooray!

Four Things I Learned This Week--Part 15

I found this great giveaway at I Never Grew Up and just wanted to let all my readers know about it. You can get a free Flip Ultra Video Camcorder! It allows you to create animated e-cards featuring a chorus of singing and dancing pets that bark or meow your favorite holiday songs. What's more fun is that you can even use your friends' or your own pet's photos. Here's the link to the card from: Spunky & Manny that I made. (You can only actually put one of your pets in it, but the one that was already there looks just like Manny anyway.)

I knew pointesettas are poisonous to cats, but through my cat/dog trivia game, I learned that Mistletoe, Holly and Christmas Cactus are poisonous to dogs! Have you played lately?




Actually, two Sundays ago our Pastor gave a message on Giving His (God's) Presence through showing compassion to others but since I already had a bunch of things I saved it for this week to share with you. He shared a web site, www.adventconspiracy.org with us that has this concept: Worship Fully, Spend Less, Give More, Love All. Here is the video that we saw in church that is on their web site:
