Anniversary

Today we are celebrating our 16th wedding anniversary! We bought the wind chime I've been wanting for several years to replace the one that broke that was given to us as a wedding present. For a while we didn't have a porch awning so had no place to hang one. It's funny though, I ended up hanging it on the gutter which we could have done even before we got the awning! We are on vacation today and all next week!

Funniest Video This Week

I laughed all through this Funniest Dog Video over at Comedy Plus this week and had to share it! It was a great start to my week. Just go watch it--I guarantee it will make you laugh!

Sad News-Cat Dies

I got teary eyed when I read A Tribute to Homer, the Blind Wonder Cat over at The Conscious Cat. This was a very unusual cat, who was a great entertainer in spite of its blindness. Both Gerard and I read the book about him and liked it: Homer's Odyssey by Gwen Cooper.

Yellow Means Caution

Getting pet at the school during lunch time.

Did you know that if a dog is wearing a yellow ribbon on it's tail, it is a warning to people that they should leave the dog alone because it isn't friendly? We saw this at our vets Apparently there is a campaign afoot to get owners to get a yellow ribbon for their unfriendly or shy dogs. Abby will not be wearing one of these--she loves greeting strangers and being pet!

What Do You Think--Use or Don't Use?

This is a picture of two furry pillows that my husband got me for Christmas one year when I said we needed new pillows.  I believe these are decorative pillows, not to be used to actually lay our heads on.  I don't want them getting all crunched and the fur matted.  They are very soft and I like to pet them now and then.

I admit, it's not like we have company over and if they are in the bedroom, we don't actually see them much, basically in the morning and just before we go to bed.  The cats see them most, but I'm sure they would not care if the fur got messed up some.

My husband says he bought them to be used--not just looked at and from time to time asks me if he can take one in the basement to use.  I scowl and he drops the idea . . . until next time.  It's not like we don't have other pillows available.  We have plenty that he could use beside these.

So, who do you think is right?  We will abide by your decision.  Do you have any decorative pillows just lying around your house?

50th Anniversary!

This is one we both liked!

That's right, it is the 50th anniversary of  the 1963 civil rights March with Martin Luther King's famous "I Have a Dream" speech.  According to the Associated Press article, "March to Focus on Continued Fight for Civil Rights," "Churches and groups have been asked to ring bells at 3 p.m. Wednesday, marking the exact time King spoke."

The Clock of Life would be a good one to read this week because it is a good historical coming of age novel that shows the racial tensions of the south.  The boy, Jason Lee, learns about his dad's bravery and courage to do the right thing bit by bit.  His dad died in the Vietnam war before he was born but is eager to learn all about him.  Jason Lee finds his dad's journal one day mixed in with a bunch of old books given to him by a friend of his dad's.  The journal relates the dad's experience in participating in the 1963 march even though he was white!

Here's a teaser from the book:

     "It's a tough thing to do in these parts, but you be friends with anyone you want, Jason Lee.  Don't let nobody tell you different, you hear?"  Her tone sounded like a scolding. 
     "I won't."
     "Your daddy got himself forty-seven stitches across the back of his shoulder.  And they threw him in jail to boot, just so you and boys like Samson could be friends."

Monday Mischief: A Walk at West Creek Reservation by Abby

Yesterday we went to West Creek Park nearby for the first time and wow, what a fun time I had!  The highlight was getting my feet all muddy.  See those stones in the picture to the left?  My mom and dad walked on those, but I walked along side through the water and sunk down in the mud next to that last stone.

This picture above is to show off the mud on all four legs.  My mom freaked out but my dad diverted her by suggesting she take my picture for this post.  She seemed better about it after that, although she did try throwing some water from my water bottle at me to try washing it off . . .

which didn't work.  I liked the rest of the park too but when we got home, my mom and dad used the hose to wash off my paws.  Even that was kind of fun.

I ran around while they tried to squirt me!  Watch this video below to see me in action at the end and to see some more of this excellent park we found!  Hope you had a fun weekend too!  Woof!  Woof!

Sunday Sharing: In and Out

The scripture highlight of the week was that I finally finished reading Ezekiel.  You can read my review of the book at Glad I Am Done With Ezekiel!  Last week I did come across some curious things, one of which involves the rules of worship God gave in Ezekiel 46.  I chose the following as my highlight of the week simply because I found it interesting.  Here it is, I'm sure you are on the edge of your seat to find out what it is!

The people of the Lord must come before the Lord at the special feasts.  Any one who enters through the North gate to worship must go out through the South gate.  Anyone who enters through the South gate must go out through the North gate.  No one will return the same way he entered.  Each person will go out straight ahead.

If we did this today at our church, we'd be walking all around the outside of the church to get to our car when we left.  I wonder if they all just walked or if they rode on animals and if they rode on animals, I suppose they would have to walk all around the outside of the temple to get back to them too.  Ha!
