5 Things We Learned This Week 31 of 2011 (nails, bears, shoes, charity, comments)

Nails

Last Friday I learned that you should soak your nails in water for 10-15 minutes before applying nail polish. Then you should apply 3 coats! We had a ladies spa night at church but I didn't do my nails. I just don't have the patience for it and don't need yet another thing to keep up with. Do you do your nails?

Grizzly Bears

The two new Grizzly Bear cubs at the Cleveland zoo are named Cody and Cooper. We visited them last Saturday for the first time and posted a video. They were fun to watch!

New Balance

According to the Cleveland PLAIN DEALER on Tuesday, the only major tennis shoe made in the U.S. is New Balance. Both Gerard and I like this shoe best so this was good news for us.

Easy Way To Help Someone

I was surprised that only two people expressed an interest in trying out KIVA for free by using my invitation link. KIVA is paying the $25 for people to lend to any of their listed borrowers just to introduce new people to KIVA. I know of two other KIVA members who got not takers on this fantastic limited offer. I don't understand it.

comments

Our comments were down last month at 175. I thought I had decent posts but maybe people are just spending less time visiting blogs. That's what I told myself but then I found that another blogger got the most comments she ever got last month. Now I'm not sure what to think.

Visit Half-Past Kissin' Time for more Friday Fragments and link up some of yours.

July was a busy month for me. I hardly had any time to comment, and it looks like August will pan out the same. If it's any comfort, I got few comments, too.

Your posts are very readable, but I am less likely to comment on animal posts. Maybe other people are, too? I don't know. I am just not all that interested in animal posts. Some animal bloggers get HUNDREDS of comments and it blows my mind. It's just not an interest to me.

I get my nails and toes done about every three weeks. I have for about 15 years. I love it.

Have a terrific weekend. :)

I don't get my nails done either. It seems whenever I put anything on them they break off so I just let them be. My comments were pretty steady last month. I comment on animal posts!

Nails? Not very often. I cut them with clippers, use an emery board on them and forget about them.

Yeah for New Balance. I'm wearing mine right now!

KIVA--I'll mention them on my blog too. I think lots of people have their donating already in place and don't take on new things.

Comments? Mine aren't too hot either, but I love animal posts as you well know. I appreciate that you reply to comments, too. (I try but don't always get to it.)

My Mommeh keeps buying pretty nail polishes, but never uses it! First she hardly has the time or patience to paint her nails, and she keeps thinking of all the upkeep once she does it.

ps: we have been getting fewer visitors and commenters than usual now, too.

I've heard that as a rule, comments tend to go down during the summer months because humans are away from the computer more. I'm not 100% sure my comments have been down - there has been a lot going on with the Pettie awards and some other stuff I've been doing, and that has kept things fairly lively at my blog.

I never get more then 2 or 3 comments. I have my nails and toe nails done at least once a month makes me feel good, last time I cut my nails all the way back before I went, she still made them look pretty and they grow so fast.I love your blogs but just forget to comment

Can't stand stuff on my nails- it makes my hands hot. Besides... who cares?

I get my nails done with gel every three weeks. It's the only way I've found I can keep up with them and keep them looking nice. I know it's not the best thing for them, but I like it. =)

I've been looking at getting some New Balance shoes. I need to get into running again, and would like some shoes specifically for it.

It's been an off month for me. I haven't been much into the bloggy world lately, either... It's just a summer thing, I think.

From my experience the way to get my comments/visits/hits up is to religiously go around and comment on other blogs that I follow.

It is sometimes tedious (it takes me a good 2 and a half hours) to read/comment on all of the blogs that I follow but it is super important.

People like to feel noticed and they like if they take the time to comment on my blog, they appreciate when I do it in return.

To be successful and create interaction it is a necessary part of blogging. Plus it is super fun and important to support each other :)

Hmn - nails? Absolutely no on hands - I dig and get into too much stuff. Yes on pedicure in the summer (sandal weather). I don't seem to smash my feet into as many things as I do my hands.

Didn't know that about New Balance - will have to check them out.

I go back and forth with my nails--I'll fuss with them and paint them, getting manicures and such, but then I'll bite them to the quick when I'm sick of them. 3 coats seems awfully think. Are we counting the clear top coat??

My comments are down and I have noticed that a lot of blogs aren't being updated regularly. I think everyone is on vacation. At least that is what I tell myself lately!

Maybe your readers are enjoying their summers more than reading blogs inside? :)

I have no nails to do, but I'll pass that on to Kendall :)

I wonder what KIVA's limit was. Whatever it was, the reached it.

Good to know about New Balance. I always try to buy USA-made products.

I've missed these "Things I've learned" posts of yours. Off to see if I can catch up on the rest :)

My comments were down to their lowest ever last month and the month before that. I have been on a month long road trip and haven't been blog hopping like I normally do. I attributed my low numbers to my inability to reciprocate the visits.

New Balance huh? I had no idea. Thanks! Those are the ones my husband likes.

KIVA is an excellent organization.
