5 Things I Learned This Week #92 (video, Venus, poll, CPR, Modem)

They Liked My Video!

I received an email letting me know that Freebies and Specials posted my Stearns Homestead video! It made me feel good that they used it to promote Stearns Homestead's fall festival. We went last Saturday and bought two slices of homemade pumpkin pie and a mum for our front yard.

Dog at Tennis Matches

When playing Freekibble this week I learned that the tennis player, Venus Williams, often takes her Toy Yorkshire Terrier, Pete, to matches with her (named after Pete Sampras). Now I like her even more!

Book Blog Poll Results

In my survey at Grab A Book From Our Stack, 16 out of 16 people said they would rather read the book first than see the movie first. This may be due to the fact that mostly readers, if not all, are the ones who visit that blog. How about you?

CPR

I read in the PLAIN DEALER this week that now the best CPR technique for heart attack victims is to skip the opening airway and mouth-to-mouth and just start right off with the chest compressions to get the blood circulating.

Internet Connection

Our "high speed Internet" has been a joke for some time. Gerard keeps saying we should get a new computer but this week I had enough of getting the message "Server Not Found" or "Problem Loading page" and decided to buy a new modem. It worked! Now it doesn't take forever to respond to our clicks and no more of those annoying messages! Yippee!

Read the book first is best. Definitely!

I had voted to read the book first too!

Glad the new modem did the trick!

Glad the new modem works! Did you try unplugging the old one and your phone, though, and replugging them? That works almost 90% of the time for me.

I get CPR training annually as part of my job. And that is right. They now recommend not doing the rescue breathing, and just focusing on the chest compressions.

Nice video. I'm not that advanced to add music and graphics. I wouldn't even know how.

That's way cool that they used your video. It was a very good video too.

Have a terrific day and weekend. :)

My human wants to know what kind of modem you got. Hers sometimes makes her say some not-very-nice words and it hurts my ears to hear them.

Pete Sampras is my Mom's favorite tennis player, still...even though he hasn't competed for years. I wonder what kind of dog one would name John McEnroe?

Daisy: I think so too. If I see the movie first, I generally skip reading the book. That's what happened with "The Notebook" by Nicholas Sparks and "The Blind Side."

Beaded Tail: I'm glad the new modem fixed my problem.

Rebecca: I did unplug the old modem and the phone cord from the phone jack but it only worked for a little while and then would screw up again. Since I bought the new one, I haven't had a problem. I'm a happy camper in my computer room now.

Our next problem is our DVR. When I try deleting a recorded show it doesn't go away right away and when I exit the DVR, the DVR heading of the show still shows and I can't change channels. UGH! I just have to turn it off and go back later and then everything is okay. It's just our upstairs TV that does this. It never used to do it like this, just this past week.

Matty: If you click on start on your computer, then run it opens up a box that you type in moviemk which stands for movie maker.

Then I just imported my pictures and pulled them down to the storyboard at the bottom.
To get the different graphics, you just choose the transition option under the title choice on the left.
When you upload it to YouTube, they have an option where you can add music and they have a whole bunch of different music to choose from. Doing it this way though will replace any sound you have on the video.

I was very pleased with how this one turned out. I spent a long time on it.

Sandee: Thanks, hope you have a great weekend too. I love the weekends!

Sparkle: I got my modem from Best buy. It's AT&T Motorola High Speed DSL modem.

Melissa B.: Pete Sampras is my favorite men's tennis player too! I liked Agassi too. Gerard read his autobiography, Open. Here's the link to his review of it: http://ourstack.blogspot.com/2010/07/open-by-andre-agassi.html

I agree.. book first, but then I'm a Language Arts Teacher, so maybe I'm biased!

New modems are definitely less expensive than new computers!

Sounds like a busy week -- hope you enjoy the weekend :)

Learning new things and sharing what you learn with others is a perfect way to Frag!

I like tennis, and Venus... I am a big Andy Roddick fan, not sure what's going on with him lately!I'll always love him though!

The CPR info has peaked my interest! It's been 7 yrs. since I graduated nursing school... and I know things have changed drastically in medicine since then. It makes sense... but why skip opening the airway? Interesting!

Congrats on the better internet connection :)

Thanks for coming by my blog and your compliments on its layout!

That's neat your video was used, and good to hear your internet connection was fixed. I wish I could say the same for mine, but my modem is pretty new and I know the problem now is actually my computer, because it isn't just the internet, it's everything that is slow haha.

That's neat about Serena's Dog :) I made a video montage once about a dog that often accompanies one of my favourite figure skating pairs to the the rinks when they compete: http://naivaze.com/?p=1849 Sooo cute :)

PS: I have subscribed to your blog through my reader, so I'll be back :)

PS: I don't care much if I read a book first or see the movie first, but I read so much that 90% of the time I've read the book before there is any talk of even making the movie haha!

We just got a new modem too and it solved a lot of our problems.

I always read a book first. I don't like those books that are written after a movie if that makes sense.

Congrats on your new toy! :)

I've not read much since I started blogging, but I like to read the book about two years before the movie comes out; that way, I'm not as disappointed if they don't match.

Yeah, I was trained in CPR last year, and right after that was told not to worry about the breathing. I can't imagine doing it right; they say if you don't crack a rib, you're not doing it right. I work with a very old teacher; it freaks me out to think she could keel over on my watch--I'm not sure I'd be able to function in such an emergency!

Good job on the review! That's really cool :)
