When I was with some friends last week sharing some funny things that happened, one of the ladies shared about a job she had years ago through Manpower when she was in her 20s.
She said she was a worm picker! I didn't even know there was such a thing, but she went on to tell us that she did it at night on a golf course for one day. She was given a light to wear on her forehead, and they strapped buckets to her arms, legs and back to throw the worms into. She only did it for one night and didn't even go back for her paycheck--one night was enough!
She wished she had a picture of her doing that but didn't have one. It must have been quite a sight! I cracked up picturing her out there on the golf course at night picking up worms. What a job!
What was the last thing that made you laugh really hard? Did you have any unusual job?
This post was inspired by Mama Kat's Writer's Workshop prompt: Write about the last time you laughed until it hurt…what happened?

I once posted a photo on my blog of my mom and some of my siblings picking nightcrawlers in the back yard. I don't know why, but I loved picking nightcrawlers; it was a challenge to grab them before the light scared them and they retreated into the wet ground. Those buggers can be quicker than you'd imagine! :)
An unusual job...hm...I've worked for unusual people but I don't remember an unusual job.
I think this could be a fun research and writing project for middle school students. I will have to share this ideas with the teachers.
Worm picker? Who knew!?
Lots of people I know have gone nightcrawler picking as kids. It was done to get bait for fishing. I never thought that people get paid for it. How many other jobs or things do I take for granted or just don't realize someone has a job doing it?
Worm collecting. That pretty much takes the cake for weirdest job ever!
Oh, that would be an AWFUL job! LOL!! My funniest job (as well as challenging) was working in a diner in Rantoul Illinois while my husband was in tech school for the air force. The diner was owned and operated by a Greek family. I was an outsider in every way. These people fought like they were home with yelling, banging and occasionally throwing. HAHA!! The customers were regulars and accustomed to the chaos it appeared. Whew! We were on our way 6 weeks later. I was grateful for the job, though. I had bills to pay. ;D
Thanks for stopping by!
