It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: to shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night. Psalms 92:1-2 (KJV)
Friday Fragments is hosted my Half-Past Kissin' Time for bloggers to post a list of short things on their minds that aren't really enough for a whole post. We like to share what we've learned each week.
Yea, I get to eat more!
Vet Visit
Had to take Manny, our cat, to the vet last Saturday and got some bad news. He's missing about half his teeth and has to go again in two weeks for x-rays to make sure roots are still not in his gums or teeth that broke off are in there, plus I have to clean his ears and feed him more because now he's underweight at 9.9 pounds. He should be around 11 or 12 pounds. Sigh.
Corn
Over at Jodi's Journey I saw this video demonstrating how to get the green leaves off corn on the cob without leaving any of those strings. Looks easy enough:
Spunky Doodle
This week I learned my little cat, Spunky Doodle is VERY strong AND determined. I tried setting up a barrier to keep her separated from Manny's food upstairs and she just knocked it over! I'll be doing a post about this early next week. She never ceases to amaze me!
Reading Speed
At Living, Learning and Loving Life if found this cool test to tell me how fast I read. I knew I was a slow reader, but didn't think I was this slow: 192 wpm (23% slower than the national avg., about a 5th gr. level!) Gerard beat me with 195 wpm which surprised me--I thought he'd beat by more than that.
(To find out things I learned from my Beth Moore Bible Study on James, check out this post: Wow, I Didn't Know That!(50 cents per legitimate comment during March goes to The American Cancer Society by sponsoring Mrs 4444 and Lucky Lady in The Race For Life.)

LOVE the corn-shucking idea! That is great. Now I have to remember that for the summer!
Manny probably lost weight because his mouth hurts to eat. Once you get his mouth cleaned up and healthy, you can feed him soft foods and he will gain weight. We went through bad teeth with a cat of ours years ago--they can do fine with very little teeth, believe it or not.
Sorry to hear about Manny! At my vet's office, once a month they have a specialist who comes in and does anesthesia free dentistry. Harley had lots of hard tartar on his teeth, but they are completely white and clean now!
Who cares how fast (slow) you read. I'm reminded of the quote that is something to the effect that there is no difference between those who can't read and those who don't. You do.
Karen!! You are SO sweet to be helping to raise funds for Relay for life!! Please give yourself (and Gerard) a big hug from me and the Difference Makers!!! You are such a gem.
The corn trick is fantastic!! I am so glad I saw that. I wonder if it works if you boil the corn in the skins? I'm definitely going to try the microwave method.

I think I can read at a decent speed, but I'm too afraid to take the test. Cause what if I'm wrong??
I took my puppy to the vet this week. She's not even a year old and already has started getting grey hairs. I know just how she feels....
Happy Friday!
I am going to try to the speed reader. It looks like fun.
Sorry to hear about Manny the cat. Here's hoping he gets better.
That corn trick is spectacular! Wonder if it wouldn't work just as well being boiled in water still in the husk.
I'm gonna try it NEXT time.
Sorry about the kitty. One of my cats got down to only 5 teeth yet somehow she was able to continue eating dry food.
Good luck with the corn shucking. I'm going to have to take that reading test.
Happy Friday!
:-)

Poor Manjny! We hope his mouth is feeling okay and we also hope he enjoys his extra foods! We don't have an underweight problem here.
I read at 327 wpm but I got all nervous so might be able to read faster. I did get all the answers right!

Purrs to Manny! I hope those roots are gone and he doesn't have to have more work done - at least he gets to eat more!

I can't wait to show that reading thing to my hubby. He is super fast at reading, but I want to see how far ahead of me he really is ;-)
I do hope your can comes through all this, good heavens, hardly any teeth? I can't imagine. Is Manny on soft food then??
