40-Year Anniversary Surprise

$1100 in Gift Cards--WOW!

Gerard has worked for only one company 40 years. It is nice to be appreciated and the company sure overwhelmed him when they surprised him at work last week with a cake (decorated in blue for his high school colors which he appreciated), $1,000 gift card and a $100 Hometown Buffet gift card in addition to his paying for a 2-yr. zoo membership that includes special behind-the-scenes events! The cake was huge and he brought half of it home which he told me to take to church to share with the VBS staff.

Now we are deciding what to use the $1,000 for and are thinking about definitely getting a new chair, maybe two, perhaps an awning for the front of our house over our porch, or something else.  His company had offered to give us an all-expense paid trip to a Boston Red Sox game which would have been very special but we turned that down since we aren't travelers.

Do you feel appreciated at your job?  What would you spend an extra $1,000 on?

WOW!! Congrats!!
I always amazing and bit jealous to those who can last in a company for so many years ^__^

Wow! Congratulations to Gerard! 40 years is quite the accomplishment. I know my husband would love to be a "company man," but here in NY, it's impossible (unless you are a politician). All the businesses seem to close every couple of years! My husband has literally had dozens of jobs.

Enjoy your prize! :)

Congratulations to Gerard! It's wonderful his employer appreciates him so much and what fabulous gifts! I got so excited for him when I read about the Boston Red Sox game until I saw you turned it down. That would have been a great reason to travel! Still, the gifts he did get are wonderful and it'll be nice to be able to get what you want. Congrats again!

And to answer your question, nope, I'm not appreciated one little bit and I am well aware of it. I'd spend an extra $1,000 on a trip! :)

Happy 40th anniversary to Gerard.

When I was working I felt very appreciated.

I'd put the money in the bank. Just saying.

Have a terrific day. :)

That is the very nicest news I've heard all day. It is so heartening to hear of a company showing such appreciation for a good employee! Congratulations to Gerard and I know you'll spend the money wisely. You never sound like you do goofy stuff.

HUGE Congratulations to Gerard for being with his company for 40 years and KUDOS to his company for APPRECIATING HIM!
Sadly that is rare in this day and age. Employers tend to not reward loyalty and employees tend to not stay that long! KUDOS TO BOTH!
Before I moved to Michigan I worked at The Plain Dealer for 21 and a half years. I got a clock for year 20 lol....
I think your ideas of how to spend your present are just wonderful and well-deserved, ENJOY!!!!

Amanda: Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I think this is the first time you've commented here!

Rebecca: I heard a long time ago that most people have at least seven different jobs during their lifetime.

Beaded Tail: I know I did a post about the Boston Trip but couldn't find it, even using the search feature. I was going to link to it. Anyhow, we found a couple very comfortable swivel rocking chairs Saturday that we bought to replace our broken one and worn one in our living room.

Sandee: The company wanted him to spend it on something, not just put it in the bank.

Ann in the Up: We were very surprised at what a big deal his company made about it. It certainly made him feel better about his job and company.

Daisy: Thanks, Daisy!

Cat Chat: It's nice to have steady work and it was a huge surprise. It really made him feel good. I'm surprised you only got a clock from the PD.

don't be...if you knew the PD then you wouldn't be surprised! lol. If I had stayed for 40 yrs like your husband I probably would have gotten the batteries to put in the clock :)

Mike: I think it is very unusual to stay in the job you had right out of high school for 40 years.

Cat Chat: Ha, ha.
