Who's Sending Me Flowers?

When I saw the flower delivery truck pull into my driveway, my first thought was who would be sending me pretty flowers?  My husband used to surprise me with flowers often, but once we got married, he realized I'd rather not spend our money on flowers that only last about a week.  Plus, Spunky Doodle, our cat used to chew on the leaves all the time and then throw up.  I didn't really think they were from him, but would have never been able to guess who they were from.  Want to take a guess?  They were from Sarah at Chewy!  Here is what the card said:

Losing such a big part of your family is never easy.  We're thinking of you in this difficult time.

Sending you love, Sarah and Your Chewy Family

Spunky Doodle
It was a very nice gesture but even more of a surprise since we didn't have any pet death recently.  Spunky Doodle had to be put down almost two years ago, September of 2021.  I don't know why they thought we recently lost a pet.  It had my name and address on it, so it wasn't just delivered to the wrong place.  But, thank you, Chewy anyway!  It was a nice surprise.

Bear

Bear, our current cat, just sniffed at them a little bit and then walked away and left them alone.  I had them on the dining room table to get some morning sun while we were at church on Sunday, and then moved them up to my den for afternoon sun and closed the door just in case Bear jumped up on the table.  He generally doesn't go in there unless I am in there though.  He's such a good cat!

A Great Drink!

One good thing that came from having a colonoscopy was finding a good drink--Zero Vitamin water.  When I had to go a whole day without food the day before, I found this when looking for sugarless Gatorade (which I never found):

This one is dragonfruit which I never heard of before as a flavor, but is very good!  Other flavors are orange, acqi-blueberry-pomegranate, lemonade, strawberry lemonade and fruit punch.  The bonus benefit besides it tasting good and having vitamins is that certain ones have 0 sugar and 0 salt.  Some have 32g of sugar though so you have to check the labels but I love it.  Today they were on sale for $1 but normally cost $1.59 each.

Right Place at the Right Time

Yesterday was such a good day, especially for a Monday when I had to work!  First, my boss surprised me with a very generous monetary gift for my birthday and Christmas along with some homemade peppermint bark.

There were brownies, candy and donuts for anyone who wanted them, so naturally, I wanted them!  I ate very unhealthy but it was very good!

Anyhow, then at lunch, I was reading down in our lobby as usual when in walks Slider, Ketchup, Mustard and Onion with the ACLS trophy the Indians won this year.  I waved to them as they entered KeyBank and shortly after, a lady came out and said anyone could come in and get their picture taken with the trophy for $5.  Normally, I only would have $3 on me but because I got the money from my boss that morning, I had enough so I quickly went in.  I am a big fan of the Indians and thought it would be really cool to be in a shot with all those characters that are at the ballfield during games.

Here is the picture I got:

The bus was even on time--it was a very good day!

P.S.  The book I was reading was Seashell Season by Holly Chamberlin.

My Loving Husband Surprises Me Again!

My husband surprised me this morning with a new shirt.  The first I saw it was when we went on our early morning walk together with our dog.  This one really made me feel good!

Isn't he sweet?

17th Anniversary of the Day We Met

ordered from 1800Flowers.com

My husband and I first met at a Pizza Hut on November 16, 1996 and hit it off right away.   Since that day we always have fond memories of it.  Monday, Gerard sent me flowers and candy at work which was a fun surprise.  Look at the cute doggie arrangement!  It has colored flowers behind the dogs too in a cute little basket.

He's learned from many years of experience that it's best to send me stuff on Monday so I can enjoy the flowers at work all week long and not have to carry them home on the bus for the weekend.  It's so sweet of him.  I know it's not practical, but romance is nice too sometimes.  He is definitely the romantic one in our relationship and I love him for that!  Receiving this at work made my day and was a pleasant surprise.

The card he included was nice to, saying "The day I met you, my life changed for the better. You're the all time sweet, always remember how special you are." --Your loving husband, Gerard

His surprise gifts was one of the things I loved about him before we were married and I am very glad he still surprises me now and then even after 16 years of marriage.  I am so glad God brought us together!

What about you? Have you surprised your mate lately?

A Surprise For My Pastor

Sometimes people can be very stubborn.  A few months ago, our Pastor nicely asked the people who attend our 8:15 a.m. service to sit in the middle section because we are so spread out.  We have a fairly large sanctuary and only about 50 people in the early service who sit all over.  My husband and I used to sit on the right side near the doors, but moved to the center the week after he asked and have sat there since.

I don't understand why people refuse to move.  This seems like such a little request to me and yet, very few have cooperated.  I would think this would make him feel so discouraged and unappreciated.  Isn't it sad how people get so set in their ways that they refuse to budge?  I felt like standing by the door and reminding people that the Pastor would like for us to sit in the center and so I think it would be a nice surprise for him if we all did it today.  Do you think they would?

I decided to go ahead and do it last Sunday.  I wrote up a little note and handed to the people as they arrived. Here is what it said:

LET'S SURPRISE PASTOR DAN TODAY

Several months ago he asked us to sit in the center section at the 8:15 service so let's all do it today. He'd be shocked and encouraged, don't you think? It'll be fun o see his reaction and would be a cool surprise that doesn't cost us anything! --Karen Zemek

40-Year Anniversary Surprise

$1100 in Gift Cards--WOW!

Gerard has worked for only one company 40 years. It is nice to be appreciated and the company sure overwhelmed him when they surprised him at work last week with a cake (decorated in blue for his high school colors which he appreciated), $1,000 gift card and a $100 Hometown Buffet gift card in addition to his paying for a 2-yr. zoo membership that includes special behind-the-scenes events! The cake was huge and he brought half of it home which he told me to take to church to share with the VBS staff.

Now we are deciding what to use the $1,000 for and are thinking about definitely getting a new chair, maybe two, perhaps an awning for the front of our house over our porch, or something else.  His company had offered to give us an all-expense paid trip to a Boston Red Sox game which would have been very special but we turned that down since we aren't travelers.

Do you feel appreciated at your job?  What would you spend an extra $1,000 on?

You Have A Really Cute Surprise Waiting For You!

When I got home from work last Thursday for the holiday weekend, Gerard met me at the bus stop and asked me if Sara was Mountain Woman. She is. He told me she sent us something really cute but wouldn't tell me what it was. When I got home, I found this:

It is a Vermont Teddy Bear wearing sunglasses with a cow bell around its neck and a piece of chocolate for me! The Holstein cow pattern is so appropriate coming from Mountain Woman who lives on a farm in Vermont. Even the box has a game board on the inside. We love it! Our two other Vermont bears quickly welcomed our new addition as you can see they all found a place together on our electric heater in our living room:

Party Bear is on the left and Secretary Bear on the right. ("Farm Bear" is between them.) Thanks so much to Mountain Woman and Man, our good blogging buddies. It was such a nice surprise and was a great beginning to my holiday weekend!

My New Pink Hat--What A Nice Surprise!

Look at my new hat that came in the mail for me from Lucky Lady. She is a two-time Cancer survivor who I recently sponsored in the walk for life relay. I have a very tiny head and the adjustable strap is practically all the way over to the smallest setting.  I've received a few compliments on it and wear it proudly.

Thank You Grover Trophy--What A Nice Surprise!

After I got back from my doctor appointment in which he confirmed that the Cancer in fact did not spread to the lymph nodes and that it is treatable with a hormone pill, the doorbell rang. I looked out the window and saw a truck from a florist--immediately thinking flowers, but no. I got something much more useful--a basket of fruit and hard candy with a note from Grover/Trophy Music wishing me well. This is where Gerard works. I thought that was a very nice gesture on their part. Manny had some fun helping me get it open while Spunky Doodle napped on the bed.

As far as the big update I thought I'd get today on my treatment, I found out I have to make an appointment with a medical oncologist to find out if I need Chemo or not and then another appointment with the radiation oncologist. Nothing was available until September 22 and 25 so more waiting.

What Graduate Can You Surprise?

I remember when I graduated from High School, how happy I was to be out and what an important event it was in my life; however, I was even more thrilled when I graduated from college knowing that now I was really done! Back than graduation parties were not as common as they are today. We just had some relatives over and whatever cards we got in the mail from friends or family. I was very grateful to my Aunt Martha and Dorothy for giving me my first car for graduation, their Rambler back in 1971.

I was also very surprised when I got a card with a check in the mail from someone at church. It was completely unexpected. It came from Norm, the friendliest and biggest man I ever knew even though had no real connection with him other than just greeting each other on Sunday mornings. He talked to everyone from kids up through seniors. He passed away, but I'll never forget him and his heart for youth!

Now, it's my turn to brighten a graduate's day and surprise them with a card and a check they are not expecting. I thought it was such a nice gesture and I enjoy doing it now, although I limit it to graduates that I have taught along the way or have had some kind of connection with such as a fellow puppeteer or VBS worker. Graduation is a milestone in a person's life that is nice to share in the celebration.

Why not get a card and write a check for a graduate you know, or give them a car if you have a spare? I am surprising eight this year, with checks, not cars. How many will you surprise?
