5 Things We Learned This Week (pets, blogging)

Friday Fragments is hosted my Half-Past Kissin' Time for bloggers to post a list of short things on their minds that aren't really enough for a whole post. Here we go:
  1. Vet Visit

12+ pounds, I ate too much!
The vet was not happy with Spunky's weight gain of 3 lbs. in 6 months. She won't be eating Manny's food anymore because I won't be leaving it out through the day.

Abby, our dog who takes hour long walks, has severe arthritis in her knees and hips, in fact, they said if she were younger they'd recommend a total hip replacement! She is now on Metacam and are considering monthly injections of Adequan. It's very expensive though, anyone have any experience with this?
  2. Fun Quiz

I took a fun quiz at BrainFall.com and learned I am like a St. Bernard:
You are a St. Bernard. You are a diligent worker. You are the one that usually takes on the tougher of jobs. Combined with your courage, you are a remarkably admirable companion.
  3. Blog Feed to Email

I learned from Mama's Losin' It how to control the time of my email feed for my blogs and how to include the name of my latest blog post in the subject line. When making these changes, I found out I only have 8 subscribers to this blog and 6 for my book blog. Subscribing by email is a convenient way to get your absolute favorite blog postings delivered right to your mail box. How about trying it out on mine!
  4. Comments For Charity

For June and July we received 416 comments so donated $208 to the Wounded Warrior Project! Wow! Thanks to all who comment! Our charity for August and September is Best Friends.

Be very careful with Metacam, as it is dangerous for long term use in cats. Is Spunky Doodle on a glucosamine supplement? Cosequin or Dasequin can make a big difference. I am on a maintenance dose of Cosequin which is just sprinkled on my foods!

Speaking of St Bernards, we looked in a list of most intelligent dogs and I was pretty shocked to find the rescue dogs almost at the bottom of the list!

you may want to do what I do...I feed my dog and cat separately and use a baby gate to keep our Dog away from the cat's food...(I realize it is the cat who is overweight) you don't "free feed" Spunky right? We can't "free feed" Cody because he is prone to weight gain as well.

We are having a Rachael Ray Nutrish give-away on Dakota's blog....stop by and enter food for your doggy! http://dakotasden.wordpress.com/2012/08/03/i-am-one-lucky-dog-i-have-rachael-ray-nutrish-naturally-delish-and-guess-what-you-can-too/

I'll be interested to know what you find out about pain killers for dogs. The Photographer has a young dog with bad knees and he can't afford surgery. With the amount of pain the dog has, it's hard for her to get enough exercise.

Sadie was on Dasequin and it helped her a lot with joint pain. I hope Spunky Doodle feels better soon! I'll be checking out that blog feed post too.

I am a Pomeranian. (A true friend and companion. Also quite sensitive and my bark is usually bigger than my bite...but that doesn't mean I can't bite! Why? Because I am also protective of the ones I love.

WOW! The quiz got it right!!! :-)
