Comment For Charity in September: Best Friends

For July we had 175 comments plus August's of 255 for a total of 430 so we had more than enough to provide a goat for a poor family for $120 through Heifer International.  Thanks to everyone who commented on our blogs during July and August!  Why a goat?  Here's why besides the fact our readers voted for us to donate a goat: 

The gift of a dairy goat represents a lasting, meaningful way for you to help a little boy or girl on the other side of the world.

Goats can thrive in extreme climates and on poor, dry land by eating grass and leaves. The gift of a dairy goat can supply a family with up to several quarts of nutritious milk a day - a ton of milk a year. Extra milk can be sold or used to make cheese, butter or yogurt. Families learn to use goat manure to fertilize gardens.

Goats often have two or three kids a year making it easy for Heifer recipients to pass on the gift of a goat to another family in need. This great investment allows our partners to lift themselves out of poverty by starting small dairies that earn money for food, health care and education. (From Heifer Int'l website.)

At 50 cents a comment, we actually have $95 more to donate which we will give to Samaritan's Purse to provide relief to those hit hard by hurricane Irene.  We hope all our readers are happy with this decision. 

For September comments, we will donate 50 cents per legitimate comment to Best Friends Animal Society , a fantastic animal rescue organization. They help a wide variety of animals, including dogs, cats, horses, birds, rabbits and even pigs! You can visit Best Friends and make your own donation if you wish. We donated to sponsor one of the animals and signed up for the free magazine which has lots of good stories in it about the different animals.
