Since I don't bake or cook, I had to go way back in time to my Jr. High school days to share about my mistake in the kitchen. During our foods class, I still remember making pancakes. I was so happy because usually we had to make some goofy thing I didn't even like and finally we got to make something actually good that I might even want to make some day. I do not accept the full blame for this disaster because there were four of us working together on this assignment.
We followed the recipe we had and ended up with the worst pancakes I ever tasted. They weren't done! They were all runny in the middle. I was so disappointed and never tried making pancakes again. They were SO bad that our teacher made an exception to the rule that we had to eat whatever we made. Even she thought they were too disgusting to eat! My mom used to make pancakes sometimes and now I have them when I go to Denny's or Hometown Buffet.
What kitchen disaster happened to you?

That's funny - I suppose you get a pass though since you were in Jr. High School!
I personally believe pancakes are harder to cook than most people make them out to be. For an inexperienced chef,it is hard to tell when the middle is done.
Great story.
How funny! I agree that pancakes are pretty hard to make. I've tried it many times and they always came out terrible. Maybe for your situation, it wasn't so much that the problem lies with you and your team but it was the *kitchen equipment* that they had you use :)
Glad you guys weren't forced to choke it down! The school probably didn't want to get in trouble for food poisoning :)
I had a pancake disaster once, I used baking soda instead of powder and they tasted awful and were flat. I think I was 17 when I did this and I thought it would be cool to make a breakfast for dinner thing for my then boyfriend.....it was a while before I attempted pancakes again but now I've found a recipe I love and they always turn out!
I remember making baking soda biscuits in home-ec. That was the first thing we had to make and I have to admit, they turned out pretty bad. I also remember that our last assignment in the class was to make an entire meal and then we got to eat it.
My greatest cooking disaster is ongoing and it's when I'm making omelets and they stick to the pan.
Paige: Thanks! I was the youngest in my class so maybe if I had a class like this when I was a bit older, I may have done better. I had NO interest in home ec at all in Jr. High.
Melissa M.: That's good to know; I feel better now!
Myorii: I don't think it was the equipment because it seemed like the other groups turned out okay. Here I thought my teacher was just being nice, but you may have a point there!
Amanda: That's funny! You are better than I. At least you gave it another try!
Tahtimbo: I'm surprised you took foods. I can't remember any boys taking home ec when I was in school.
I have made some bad pancakes mine tend to be black though because I cook on high, lol i always get impatient!
I don't think you should give up on making pancakes. They are just too good and now they have mixes, you CAN NOT mess up. Just add water and cook. :) I was visiting from SITS...oh and I think the worst thing I ever made was brownies with olive oil instead of just oil. YUCK!
Come visit me sometime.

Oh no... I hope you attempt pancakes again someday! They are too delicious! They can be tricky until you figure out how long they have to cook though; I agree with you there.
