Project Pink--Go Vote!

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009.

Have you heard yet about Project Pink?  PUMA's Project Pink is giving up to $125,000 towards cancer research to a cancer charity receiving the most votes in their contest. Voting is easy, even I did it!  There are many cancer charities from which to choose.  (I voted for Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation--Act With Love because I get regular emails from "The Army of Women" and they are the ones who told me about this.)

Go vote--just a few easy steps:
1.  Submit your email to register for voting.
2.  Enter some basic information.
3.  Browse the gallery or search for who you wish to vote for.
4.  Vote!

Shop Project Pink gear and tweet with #projectpink to make the donation pot even bigger. The winning charity receive 100% of the profits from the sale of Project Pink, plus $1 ever time someone tweets with #projectpink. So tweet, shop, vote and do good. All in all, the donation could be worth up to $120,000! And the entire collection is super cute!

So, get on over to the polls and VOTE NOW!  Supporters may vote once a day for their choice charity until the contest's conclusion on Friday, October 5th, 2012

9 Things I Learned This Week #90 (blogging, cancer, grubs, water, cleaning, texting)

Over 40

When visited They Say Everyone Has A Story last Friday, I found that Bloggers over 40 can link up at Never Growing Old each week to hop around to visit others who are over 40 and blogging too. Just what I need, more blogs to visit and another thing to link up to!

Breast Cancer Research

Thanks to Mama Kat I learned about Army of Women that is a group of women volunteering to join with scientists in breast cancer research studies. Their goal is to recruit one million women. Go sign up and spread the word!

We Got Grubs? What About You?

I learned how to check for grubs in our yard from Lin from Duck and Wheel in this comment she left on "Did You Ever Have This Yard Problem?": "To test for grubs in any season, just grab a handful of grass and give a tug--like you are lifting a toupee off an old geezers head. If it is grubs, your lawn will lift up."

What Field Of Science Are You?

I am Biology

You are a warm and connected person. You are interested in all living things - plants, animals, and humans.
I must say, I wasn't surprised at this result. I like plants, but can't really say I'm interested in them; however, I love animals and humans. It amazes me how different each person is and that there are so many people who have lived and are currently living; yet no two are exactly alike! Not even twins!

4 Things I Learned This Week--Part 39

Sleep Is Good

In Tuesday's CLEVELAND PLAIN DEALER there was an article about building up your immune system to fight off colds by getting 8 hours of sleep a night. Does anyone do this? Read Get Your Sleep To Help Fight Off Colds that I posted earlier this week.

Breast Cancer Fighting Foods

At Get Moving with mountain Woman and Tahtimbo, I found this list of Cancer fighting foods that were listed in Shape Magazine that Mountain Woman shared: Artichokes, Broccoli, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Pomegranates, (Pomegranates have been shown in clinical trials to halt the spread and recurrence of cancer), Swiss Chard (use instead of spinach), Bok Choy, Tomatoes and Purple Grapes.

One thing mentioned was if we all ate our daily dose of 5 to 9 servings a day of fruit and veggies, there would be 200,000 fewer cancer deaths a year!

Take Along A Flashlight

Gerard learned this week that it's wise to bring along a flashlight on his morning walk with Abby because it's so dark early in the mornings now. Check out "Poor Gerard, It's All My Fault" on Abby's blog for details.

My Treatments

The good news is that I do not need Chemo and will start my radiation treatments on Tuesday, October 6.

7 Things I Learned This Week--Part 34

V8 Juice

I was pleasantly surprised that when I tried my 100% vegetable V8 juice that it actually tasted okay, way better than the green tea! I am stocking up on this. The bottle says it's more than half your daily vegetable requirement so I figure I'll drink two bottles a day and be covered.

False Email Re Cancer Update

Whew, I'm glad I checked on the email I received that claimed it was a Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins before I posted about it. I googled Johns Hopkins Cancer and up came a notice from Snopes that this email is false. It suggested the National Cancer Institute website as a reliable source for cancer information at www.cancer.gov.

Baby Carrots

Thanks to Jodi's Journey's Information About Baby Carrots post I found out that some of those aren't healthy at all! Some are coated with chlorine to preserve them but chlorine is a cancer causing agent. Fortunately, I bought the organic ones that hopefully are just little and not coated!

Keep the Flies Away

At Jodi's Journey this week I also learned about this easy trick to keep the flies away: Fill a Ziploc bag with water and 5 or 6 pennies and hang it in the problem area.

Speed Reading Trick

At Daily Blogs Tips I watched a video describing an interesting speed reading tip. The basic idea is that you need to stop reading with your larynx (i.e., trying to pronounce each word as you go, even if just mentally) and start reading with your eyes (i.e., the information is processed by the brain immediately as you see it).

Baking Soda

When I visited LaJolla Mom for the first time this week through SITS I found that baking soda works really well for cleaning wood cabinetry and furniture stains plus many more uses too.

Entrecard

I just found out that Entrecard has updated their tool bar to be compatible with Firefox 3.5. I missed it because it is so convenient to advertise on blogs as I visit them this way. I'm still not going to get back in that dropping habit that takes up so much time. Here's the post with the download if you're interested: click here By the way, welcome back Junk Drawer!

My New Best Friend

I know I should eat vegetables every day but I'm lazy. Many need to be cut up or cooked so that is the main reason why I don't eat them. They don't really fill me up either. Ready-made Salads are expensive! That's why my new best friend is the V8 100% vegetable juice! It tastes okay to me, like cold tomato soup, and one bottle is over half the daily vegetable requirement so I'll be drinking 2 bottles of that a day.

I've also started drinking green tea every day. I discovered that the green tea bags are milder and not quite as bad as the green tea from our machine at work. If I put a little lemon in it and some ice, then I can swallow it if I picture it attacking those Cancer cells. Fighting Cancer is a great motivator to eat healthier! Thanks for all those who prayed that I would acquire a taste for these drinks!
