After our Moe died New Year's of 2007, we missed him very much. One of my dad's cats, Sylvester, was the only cat I knew who actually liked being held and would crawl on my lap and let me pet him as long as I wished. It was a very big strong unneutered tabby man cat that had feline aids so I couldn't bring him into my home so had to have him put down. I thought it would be nice to see if I could find a cat like him. Spunky already reminded me of my dad's Sweet Thing (not in temperament but in looks). I missed my dad's cats too because I helped take care of them and visited with them every day as well.
I noticed Spunky missed Moe too and was lonely through the day while we were at work, so I planned to get another cat. When I heard about Manny needing a new home, I thought he'd be perfect for us. An old friend of mine became pregnant so couldn't take her allergy medicine which made it necessary for her to get rid of her cat, FooFee. He was neutered and was declawed on his front paws, plus he was a tabby which is what I was planning on getting. We renamed him Manny.
See, he looks like Sylvester in this bottom picture, doesn't he? At first Manny was very scared, naturally, but he is now Mr. Nice Nice as I predicted he would be. (video of scared Manny). It took awhile for him to warm up to us, but he has become very affectionate. Although he doesn't crawl on my lap if I'm sitting, he does come up on the couch and on our bed with us. He enjoys laying on my legs while I watch TV laying on the couch. Manny is more brown and Sylvester was more gray, but the markings are the same. Click here to read about Sylvester's Last Day.
Manny wrote about his birthday on his blog and asked me to be sure to let you know: Happy Birthday To Me.

Happy Gotcha Day, Manny! I'm glad you found such a great Forever home, and I hope you have an extra-special day.
We want to second what Daisy said. We're so happy your in a loving home forever. Happy Gotcha Day Manny.
Oh, I love that "Happy Gothca Day." I hope Manny has a wonderful day and you feel better soon!
Happy Gotcha day Manny - hope you have a wonderful day.
He looks like a cat I had a long time ago. My cat's name was Fatty. He wasn't fat, I just like giving cats strange names. To this day, my sister calls me up and asks me to name her family's pets.
Happy Gotcha Day Manny and many, many, many mooooore!! That is cool that we have the same Gotcha Day!! Thanks for coming by and wishing me a Happy Day, too!!
Hi 5 paw,
Mr. Tigger
PS: I have your GD date wrong at the M-Cats Club, I'll change it!!
To Manny, Happy Gotcha Day to you.
So, you put Sylvester down because you couldn't take him in??? How horrible!! Couldn't you find him a home with a no-cat household?
Happy Gotcha Day Manny!
Manny says to thank you all for taking time to wish him a happy Gotcha Day.
Ratty: What a funny name for a cat that isn't fat. It's not easy to think of names for cats. Animal shelters have to do it all the time. Maybe you could offer some suggestions for a shelter near you.
Lin: I did try to find Sylvester a home for 3 months but couldn't find anyone who would take him. I came very close to taking him in even with him being an intact male with aids and claws but if you check out the post I wrote about his last day, you'll see I really had no choice: http://karenzemek.blogspot.com/2009/05/sylvesters-last-day-went-out-as-champ.html
Karen--I read the post. No judgement on my end--my mom has a cat who pees on everything in her house. If something should happen to Mom, I'd have to face the same decision you did. I cannot bring a peeing cat into my household--I have two cats of my own and that would be just too much.
I didn't mean to question you, just asking about it I guess. Wow. What a difficult decision you had to make. My heart aches for you on that one. How very sad for someone who apparently loves the kitties very much.
Lin--Perhaps there is a medical problem with your mom's cat. My dad never took his cats to the vet for annual shots or checkups. He waited until they were already sick. Perhaps your mom's cat has some kind of medical condition? May be wise to see a vet about it. I'm glad you read my comment.
She did have it checked out--the cat was an abused and neglected stray that she took in from Animal Welfare. The cat has many emotional issues, so her peeing is her form of expression. Nice, eh? She's had her a long time and she just has "issues". Mom's okay with that, so I guess if it works.....
