Today is the 12th anniversary of the day Gerard proposed to me on my back porch after we got back from playing tennis. Maybe not the most romantic proposal, but I thought it was cute—he just couldn’t wait any longer! We were 44 and 45 when we got engaged. We had only known each other for six months. Gerard said he knew right off that I was the one for him. I don’t know how he could know so quickly, but he insists he did. He treated me like a queen from the start of our relationship, opening doors for me, sending me surprise gifts, carrying things for me, helping me with my coat, following me around everywhere I went and still does most of these things. Now that our money is combined, I asked him to cut down on the surprise gifts. The rest, he still does.
I must admit I was a bit scared about getting married, After all, my life was good and marriage came with no warranty. There are no guarantees but we both went in with the attitude that marriage is a lifetime commitment so we’ll make it work. It does take work, some sacrifice and some compromise, but we look forward to growing old together and enjoying our retirement years in the future. Right now, we are having a pretty good time too! It seems we were meant for each other.
What about you? When and how did you get engaged? Do you celebrate your proposal date?

That is so sweet. We don't celebrate our proposal date because we would have to celebrate 2 different dates...the date he wrote the letter and the date I got it!!!! He was in the army so he sent me a letter on army stationary with just 4 words..."Will You Marry Me" on it. I still have it. My mother joked that I had him legally since it was in writing. LOL
Congratulations on the anniversary of your proposal!
my husband celebrates the day we met April 15,1976 neither of us ever dated anyone else
My hubby just ask me out of the blue if I would marry him. I can't even remember what day that was. So we don't celebrate that day. We celebrate our anniversary on April 29th though.
Have a terrific day. :)
I meet Celestins one sept day in 1979 while I was working as a security guard at television 8. At the time the AAA headquarters was located right next door to TV 8. One of the road dispatchers(Pat Wright) introduced me to her.we were married March 1 1980,and are still going strong.
We do because it is one and the same date, Halloween to be exact. I think it's so sweet you have two separate dates and still celebrate. You two are an adorable, sweet couple.
Mary: That's a nice story, bet you were surprised to get that one in the mail!
Daisy: Thank you. Gerard had a surprise for me when I got home--a fancy t-shirt with a collar that looks like a polo shirt but without the buttons. It has a sleeky looking cat on it.
Lucky Lady: We celebrate the day we met too--November 16. We think that was a pretty important day.
Sandee: Glad you know your anniversary!
Mike: Good for you! Appreciate your comment here. Always nice to hear there are strong marriages out there.
Mountain Woman: Were you in costume at the time? We're going to watch our engagement video now.
Congratulations on the 12th anniversary of your proposal! We celebrate just the day we started dating and our wedding anniversary probably because neither one of us remembers the exact day we got engaged!
What a sweet story. I'm glad you remember the proposal date. I don't remember mine, but I do cherish the moment.
My now-husband proposed to me with a teddy bear. I used to collect them and he bought a cute fuzzy brown one, got down on one knee, held the bear's paws together so that it was clutching the ring box, and said "Will you marry us?" Cute. I still remember it like it was yesterday.
That's so sweet. Congrats on your proposal anniversary!
Happy 12th Anniversary! Celebrating it is soooo romantic.
Karen & Gerard, congratulations on your 12th proposal day, that is awesome. What a wonderful story Karen, I am so happy for you both. God bless.
Jodi
Beaded Tail, Modern Mom, Liza & Jodi: Thanks! Gerard is the romantic one in our relationship--he remembers all our special dates.
Kathy: That is so cute. I'm surprised Gerard didn't do something similar. Sounds like something he would do too. On our wedding day while I was getting ready, he had one of my friends deliver a little stuffed bear to me just to make me smile and know he was there.
No, Karen, we weren't in costume but we did have lots of pumpkins around. I'd love to see your video by the way.
