Too Critical? Who, Me?

Now, if you are familiar with the 4 "Animals Personality Test (click the link to go take the test), I am a strong Beaver with a lot of lion in my personality.  This is a very short, easy, fun test to help couples understand each other better and learn to get along well.  My Beaver traits include:  organized, detailed, precise, do things by the book (the right way), checklists, logical, factual, inquisitive, deep feelings, can be critical, but also very hard on self).  The lion traits that apply to me are:  takes charge, determined, assertive, firm, competitive, enjoys challenges, purposeful, decision maker, leader, goal-driven, "Lets do it now." 

Within a couple months, I've been accused of being too critical.  I prefer to describe it as wanting things to be done right.  Recently, I played pickleball at John Glenn Park in Seven Hills where they recently added two pickleball courts.  Immediately, I thought "Wow, those courts are ugly and the kitchen is the same color as the rest of the court!"  The kitchen or non-volley zone 7 ft. from the net on both sides is always a different color than the rest of the court just so it's easy to tell if the ball lands in the kitchen or if someone is in the kitchen when they volley.  

The other thing that really bugged me was that the net

was too high.  I could tell right away, and although 2 1/2 inches doesn't sound like a big deal, it's enough to prevent what should be a good shot from clearing the net.  Pickleball nets are supposed to be 36 inches high at the ends and 34 inches high in the middle.  Several days later, I went back to measure the height of the nets just to be sure they were too high and sure enough, I was right!

I mentioned this to the guy who got the group together to play at these new courts and he told my husband I was too critical.  I won't be going to play there again until they get them fixed.  

I will try to stay positive in spite of my Beaver personality traits!

I do.  I believe this is so true.  Who knows what I would be like if I were born in a different country or with different parents or had different experiences?  Romans 14:13 says:   Let us not therefore judge one another any more:  but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.

It Says I'm A Geek--If Only That Were True!

You Are a Geek

You love to learn, especially when it's about technology. No subject is too obscure for you.

Apparently I'm not geeky enough to figure out why my Firefox browser won't open. I wish I were more of a geek so I understood better the inner workings of my computer! Thanks to Rebecca's detailed instructions she left in the comments Monday, I got my Firefox browser to open again!

You enjoy tinkering with things to see how they work. You aren't a traditional learner either... you need to hack around to figure things out.

I do enjoy tinkering to try to figure things out on my own, but only want to spend what I consider to be a reasonable amount of time doing it. I don't like wasting hours trying to figure out why my Firefox browser or my flip program won't open!

You may have the brains to be a super rich Silicon Valley geek, but you're truly content to have your own favorite projects, subjects, and toys.

I am very content to have my own favorite projects, really, I'm not that big of a geek.

For you, being a geek is not about the glory. It's about a love of digging deep and truly understanding the world.

I think this applies way more to my dad than to me. He's the one who seemed to always want to learn new things, especially how things worked. I'm really satisfied it things work like they should when I press the buttons, flip a switch, or click on the computer. I don't really care exactly how it works, just am glad when it does! On the other hand, my dad would actually only read books that taught him how to do something whether it was carpentry, plumbing, electrical, shopping, or locksmithing. He was interested in how everything worked!

When I was shopping for a wedding dress, I wanted something light, easy to walk in, traditional, modest and not real expensive. I was so happy when I found the perfect dress for me at David's Bridal which I have pictured here taken last year on my 10th anniversary (and the price was right). I could still fit into it! I'm really not big on dresses, mostly because of having to wear nylons and dress shoes with them. Since this dress came down to the floor, after the ceremony and reception immediately following, I changed into some white tennis shoes which I wore for the pictures at Stan Hywett Gardens in Akron, Ohio.
