An Interview About the Stations of the Cross with Gerard

My husband was very excited about being able to go to the Stations of the Cross at St. Francies Desailles since he's retired now. It was at noon on Good Friday and it was something he wanted to do for a long time. I had to work so was very interested in his thoughts about it and exactly what they did. I never experienced this. In my church they didn't have it. Here is a list of the 14 stations that were listed in the booklet:

3 Jesus Falls the First Time
4 Jesus Meets His Afflicted Mother
5 Simon Helps Jesus Carry the Cross
6 Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus
7 Jesus Falls the Second Time

9 Jesus Falls the Third Time
10 Jesus Is Stripped of His Clothes
11 Jesus Is Nailed to the Cross
12 Jesus Dies on the Cross
13 Jesus Is Taken Down from the Cross
14 Jesus Is Buried

Praise God, Jesus did not stay dead but rose and lives today! HAPPY EASTER!

Sunday Sharing: The First Speed Boat

There are several accounts recorded in the Bible about Jesus and boats, but this is my favorite! In John 6:16-21, Jesus actually walks on the water towards the boat that is three or four miles from shore, terrifying the disciples who were in the boat. But then in the second part of verse 21, it says:

...suddenly the boat reached the shore where they were headed. (Contemporary English Version)

I find this very interesting because usually it seems like God takes His good old time in bringing things to pass but in this instance, He must have been in a hurry. Jesus did a lot of very cool things when He lived on earth as a man and I think this is one of them. Wouldn't it be nice to hop in your car and immediately be transported to your destination? If Jesus were here in the flesh in our time, I wonder what cool things He would do in this day and age. This is just one example that I think would be really neat since I'm not big on traveling. It's not that I wouldn't like to go see other places, it's the actual traveling part that turns me off.

In the book, The Shack by William P. Young, it includes a part where Jesus and the guy in the story walk on the water which was one of our favorite parts of the book.

This week I read John 6-8 and although tempted to pick several "highlights" for the post because there is just so much good stuff in these chapters, I decided to go with just one and keep this post short in the hopes that more would read it. I'd love to hear some feedback on what you think of my Sunday Sharing posts as well as one of your scripture highlights of the week.

Just a reminder, 8 p.m. EST, History Channel shows the second part of "The Bible" mini-series.  My favorite scene last week was when the Israelites were between the Red Sea and the Egyptians who were coming after them and then God made a path through the sea.  If you watched it, what was your favorite scene from last week?

Miracle Monday: The Man in the Clouds

For many years, a couple served as missionaries to the Malto people of India without seeing a single person come to Christ. The husband and 3-yr.-old son died, the wife returned to the states feeling devastated, confused, and defeated.

A few weeks later, a JESUS film team arrived in that exact Maltos area. This time the government officials allowed the film to be shown. During the scene at Jesus’ baptism in the Jordan River, when His face first appeared on the screen, the crowd erupted with shouts and exclamations. The team had no choice but to stop the film and learn what the commotion was about. “It’s the Man!” they shouted. “He is the One we saw walking in the clouds!”

Miracle Monday: The Bus

A JESUS film team in Nigeria received permission to show the JESUS film at Osupa. A huge crowd of more than 2,000 people came to watch the film from both sides of the road.

As the film progressed, suddenly people began running in all directions. In the darkness, the team couldn’t figure out what was going on, but the commotion was caused by an out-of-control bus speeding straight toward the film site. The people looked aghast at the rapidly approaching headlights! Everything seemed hopeless. Apparently the driver was drunk and lost control of the bus. The film equipment, the team, and hundreds of men, women and children stood directly in its path.

How the large vehicle missed the crowd remains a mystery to this day. Workers said it was as though an unseen hand took control of the bus and moved it to the side, sparing the live of not only the audience, but also the driver. Ironically, the bus driver’s father was the man who allowed the use of this area to show the film.

This reminds me of a time me and my friend were riding bikes in our driveway. My dad’s car was parked in the drive. I went down the drive between the house and the car at the same time my friend came up the drive between the house and the car. I was sure we were going to ram head on into each other and closed my eyes waiting for the crash, but it never came! Somehow we passed each other without hitting or either of us falling. It was a very narrow space and at that time, bikes were big and clunky.

Can you think of a time when the only explanation you didn’t get hurt or in an accident was God’s protection?

Miracle Monday: Praise and Angels

Sometimes it may seem that God only did miracles in Bible times, but He is still in the miracle business today! As I read The Power of Jesus I was amazed at some of the modern-day miracles reported by The Jesus Film Project. I bought these booklets for the boys in my Sunday School class and will also share some of the miracles with you here on Mondays with the permission of The Jesus Film Project. I wonder why we don’t hear about these kinds of things in the news!

Angels at the Bridge in Southeast Africa

Transporting the Yao JESUS films and equipment from South Africa for an evangelistic campaign was not easy. A group of 35 Christians and vehicles loaded with supplies for a 20-day journey and outreach traveled bush roads in terrible condition.

They found that all the bridges had been either washed away or blown up during previous years of civil war, replaced with makeshift piles of sticks, twigs, and rocks. Even in four-wheel drive vehicles, crossing those bridges was risky and frightening. The passengers got out to help guide the loaded cars and vans as they inched their way over. At any moment, one of the vehicles could have lost its traction and tumbled off.

Things I Learned This Week--Part 16

We went to the zoo on Saturday and met a new little animal that one of the volunteers was holding. It's about the size of a chipmunk with very big eyes and a membrane that makes it so it can glide through the air 60 feet like a kite. The big eyes are a sign that it is a nocturnal creature. It's comparable to our flying squirrel. She said it lives in Australia. Any guesses? It's called a sugar glider but does not eat sugar. It's very soft with sharp teeth and claws. I really need to get back into regular exercising and strength training so starting January, I'm back to the gym again. Take a look at this video of me and Gerard attempting very simple band exercises:


At The Modern Mom I found a whole list of "Stain No-Nos" which included some things that I never knew I shouldn't do such as "Don’t rub soap into fresh stains, it will only set stains" and "Don’t tumble-dry stained fabric, the heat will only set remaining stain permanently." The source she noted was "quick & Simple."

Also from Modern Mom's "Remove Wall Stains" post, I learned how to finally get the monster stickers of my dresser when I was a kid. It really works! I will be doing a separate post about this with pictures and me actually doing it. You just heat it up a little with a blow dryer, rub some liquid laundry detergent on it and use a spatula to scrape it off. (See post with demonstration video Jan. 8)
