So Frustrating: Hunting With No Success--HELP! (UPDATED)

Thanks to Kathy's comment, I found it:  It's titled Naughtiness and Non-Cooperation over at Words, Words, Words.  I did have it added to my blogroll and looked over there several times because the background matched what I remembered, but couldn't find the post.  I feel so much better now AND I learned how helpful that history tab can be!  Thank you, Kathy!  (Updated 8:15 p.m. 10/25/12)

Just a few days ago I came across a really cute post about a blogger deciding to do a photoshoot with cats and pumpkins. She had cute pictures up which showed the cats being uncooperative and being distracted by a leaf. One stayed on the porch and wouldn't even come over to the pumpkins. Finally, she resorted to taking a shot of a bunny rabbit with the pumpkins. I thought I linked to it somewhere and thought I added it to my blogroll. I wanted to give it a shout out on my Friday Fragments this week, but when I went back to find it, I couldn't after spending two hours looking for it. ARRGH, where was that? Anyone else know?

I tried all my new blogroll additions, checking out the blogs of new commenters, Googling it, checked my Facebook and Twitter pages for it, looked back through some of the Camera Critters, Monday Mischief and Pet Pride blog hops and came up with zip. I think it had a black background, but I'm not positive. I can't remember the blogger's name or the blog name. By doing this post, I'm showing how desperate I am, I know. It's a long shot, but can anyone tell me where I saw this? I can't remember the title of the post either. surprise! Surprise!

It is such a cute post and so well done that I really wanted to share it.

I Did It--Challenge Completed Ahead of Schedule

The Five Chapters I Typed From Memory

Back in January I accepted the challenge to memorize the entire book of James (only 5 chapters) as part of the Beth Moore Bible Study. My plan was to memorize one of the chapters each month which would take to the end of May. I am happy to report that I have memorized all five chapters as of Monday of this week. This is by far the longest thing I ever memorized in my life! It was not easy, but I was determined and kept plugging along, trying to do at least one verse a day. Some took longer but some I already knew so I could sometimes lump several together.

Here is a list of the methods I used which worked for me:

First of all, I prayed asking the Lord to help me do this and believed that he would since memorizing scripture is within his will.

I wrote the verse of the day on a small paper and analyzed it, marking the prepositional phrases, noting the verbs, looking for word patterns and just anything that would help me remember the word order.

If it was a long verse, I wrote it again using just the first letter of each word and kept it at my desk where I would see it and could practice the verse using the clues.

When I thought I had it memorized, I would try typing it without looking at it and then checking it against the Bible to see if I had it right. If not, I'd practice some more and try again until I could get it perfect.

I also reviewed the verses I memorized in my head before on my way to the bus stop, on the bus, before I went to bed at night or on my breaks or lunch at work. Reviewing is very important if you want to remember it long-term.

As I finished a chapter, I tried typing the whole chapter without looking and then checked it, marking the words I missed and making the correction, then printed it out and highlighted my errors. As I would read it over from that copy, I would focus on making the correction and try it again. On my next attempt, sometimes I would miss different words or leave something out and would mark those errors with a different color as well as the errors I made on the first attempt. I did this with each chapter as I finished them and kept on trying until I got it right (I still have to try chapter 5 again). I think using this to review with was most helpful.

As I went along, I set short-term goals as well. After I got Chapter 1 done, I knew I could do it because Chapter 1 was the longest of the five and very hard!

The hardest thing I found in memorizing this book was keeping track of when the verse had "brethren" or "my brethren" tossed in. Also, I found it hard to keep track of when to use "which" and when to use "that." These were the most common errors for me. My mind did get a little boggled up though as I added more chapters which repeated some topics. I really had to focus on which verses went to which chapters.

I hope this will encourage some of you to try memorizing some scripture, perhaps not a whole book but maybe a favorite chapter at least.  Have you memorized any books of the Bible?  Do you have any other memorizing tips that work for you?

Three Things I Learned This Week--Part 14

At Mother Knows Best, I learned the history of the "12 Days Of Christmas" song. It actually as a double meaning. Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality which the children could remember.

I also learned from another post there titled Treat Your Kids To Chat With Santa that now kids can actually chat with Santa online at www.chatwithsanta.com.

Thanks to a little memory game at Lady Banana, I found out my short-term memory is better than I thought. I reached level 8 which was better than the others who played and shared their scores. I may have even done better if Gerard did interrupt me with "Look at the cats" and "Are you playing a game?" Click here to try it and see how you do.

By the way, we hit 100 visitors who signed our guest book yesterday and 20 followers! Yippee!!

Here is something I'd like to learn:
Since I got my photo scanner, when I choose pictures to use as my wallpaper on my computer, some still fill the screen as usual the way I want, but others show up as a bunch of smaller pictures of the same thing filling up the screen--I hate this! Can anyone tell me why this happens or how I can fix it so that they all show as one full screen picture?

Six Things I Learned This Week-Part 11

Did you know only male turkeys gobble? The female ones cluck. I just found this out Saturday at our Sunday School get-together for the 5th and 6th graders at church. That's when I made my turkey.

I came across a very interesting post about improving your memory at Rising Thinker. Two things I found very fascinating that I didn't know are (1) It's better to memorize on an empty stomach, and (2) When you first wake up every morning, you should move your eyes from side to side to get both sides of your brain going.

Daisy the Curly Cat's mom told me how she makes the videos of Daisy with movie maker on the computer. I didn't know I could put several short video clips together to make one, but now I know! I am experimenting and made my first one which I'll post here sometime next week. From "Start", choose "run" and type in "moviemk" then browse to upload the clips or pictures you want to work with and then save them to your computer. Here's my first attempt:


Gerard showed me an article from the November 26 USA TODAY Life section about Pilots-N-Paws. Men and women who are pilots give up their own time to fly dogs that are on death row to other places where they may be adopted or to no-kill shelters. We think that is wonderful and thank them for saving these dogs from being euthanized.
