Monday Mischief: How To Get That Poop by Abby

I felt bad mom was so mad at me, but I was just being a dog--no one's perfect!
My mom got very mad at me Saturday because I did a dog thing she just can't understand.  My sniffer is excellent and so I can smell things before my mom can even see them.  This is a skill most dogs have and that I recommend you use when the fragrance of other dog poop is in the air.

Before my nursing home visit, mom took me for a quick walk down the street so I could pee first, which I did.  As I passed our neighbor's yard, I got a whiff of some poop and made a mental note of it.  Then on our way back, mom even ran along with me so I could get some running in.  I charged toward home (or so she thought), but actually I was charging for that poop I smelled and pretended to cut across our neighbor's front yard to our house but stopped and grabbed a chunk of poop on the way.  My mom freaked and yelled at me, trying to get me to drop it.  It did fall out of my mouth, but I recovered it before she could kick it away.  Yay me!  But boy, was she mad!  She said she will not let me go into anyone's yard again, no more cutting through yards.  Daddy heard the whole thing and didn't even stick up for me.

Note from mom:  It really annoys me that some dog owners are too lazy or irresponsible to pick up after their dogs.  At the park, there was a pile of dog poop only 10 feet away from a garbage can and the free poop bag station.  Grrrrr!

Sunday Sharing: Leave Revenge To God

This week my highlight is from I Samuel 24, my Sunday School lesson today.  The background is that King Saul has been trying to kill David on several occasions.  David gets the perfect opportunity to kill Saul in a cave but instead just cuts off part of his robe.  First Samuel 24:12, 15 is part of the conversation David had with Saul shortly afterward:
 (12) May the Lord judge between us and may he punish you for the wrong you have done to me!  But I won't fight you. (15) May the Lord be our judge and decide between you and me.  May the Lord support me and show that I am right.  May he save me from you. (David speaking to Saul)
I am glad that God is our judge and sees all and knows our hearts.  I am glad that when I am wronged, I can let God deal with the situation and have peace.  I just need to do what's right and let God take care of everything.  David demonstrated forgiveness and kindness to Saul, his enemy.

What was your scripture highlight this week?

Ruckus Spoils a Peaceful View

Last Friday when we went to pick up our Indians tickets for the Monday afternoon game, we walked down to the 9th Street pier after eating our lunch from Subway at the Ralph J. Perk Park.  It was very hot but the view was so worth the walk!  Not too many people were around when we went.

There was a girl reading a book and a black family--two parents with three small children who were sitting nearby watching the boats.  They were enjoying it until all of a sudden, I hear the mother yelling for the kids to get over to her right now!  When I turned around, the kids were climbing up some steps.  When they came over, the mother got up and smacked each one on the side of the head!  She hit the two bigger kids first and they sat down on the wall where they had all been sitting before but the little one was so afraid, she was screaming before she even got hit and was afraid to go any closer.  I didn't blame her.  Then the big father got up and swatted her and she fell down.  It was heart wrenching!  All I could think of was if they treat their children like that in public, what must they do at home?  I didn't know what to do but I felt if I kept watching, the parents may not be as aggressive.  No cops were anywhere in sight.  It was very upsetting to me.

As we left, I prayed for that family, asking God to protect those children and that the parents would wake up and get some help to stop abusing their children.  Do you think I should I have budded in and said something to the parents?  Should I have called 9-1-1 (which I did consider doing, but thought by the time anyone came, they may be gone)?  What do you think we should have done, if anything?

More Exploring at West Creek Reservation

This is the only place where we saw a drinking fountain for dogs!

This time I drank for the doggie drinking fountain!
Our first visit to this park was on a Sunday so we came back on a Saturday to check out the nature center.  It's very nice and air conditioned!  When we first walked through the door, we saw this beautiful quilt made by some Amish hanging on the wall. This picture doesn't do it justice.

Square are scenes from the metroparks.

We were very surprised to find a vending machine with cold drinks and ice cream for sale in a little gift shop:
This is good to know for hot days!
This place is big!  Here is a picture of the lounge area where you can sit to look out over the park and they have bird feeders just outside the windows.

Nice leather chairs too relax on too!

There are educational exhibits along the way showing how the West Creek watershed works and other different things about water.  One had a video playing saying the bottled water was a "manufactured demand" and isn't any better than tap water.  While we were there walking through, other people stopped to pet Abby and one lady even took her picture with her iphone!

My picture taken by Debbie, a stranger in the nature center.
We thought it was such a good picture of Abby that we asked is she would email it to us and she did!  When we were out on the trail, another couple with a cute little girl stopped and was trying to get her to pet Abby.  She liked the dog but was afraid to go too close.  They had a camera too and that would have made a cute picture.

No muddy feet today--good girl, Abby!  See last week's Monday Mischief at the Park to read about our first time here.

Sunday Sharing: Friendship and Loving Others

This week as I was reading through I, II and II John as well as preparing for my Sunday School lesson on being a true friend, reading about David and Jonathan's example of good friends (I Kings 18-20), it seemed I was bombarded with the fact that if we say we love God, we will also love others.

If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar:  for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?  And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also. --I John 4:20-21 (KJV)

Finally, I reviewed the memory passage for this unit which is filled with commands as to how to treat people found in Romans 12:9-14, 21 which says:

Love must be sincere.  Hate what is evil, cling to what is good.  Be devoted to one another in brotherly love.  Honor one another above yourselves.  Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.  Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.  Share with God's people who are in need.  Practice hospitality.  Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.  Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Romans 12:15-20 contain even more ways to relate with others that I read as well, but I guess the ones writing the material thought the above passage was long enough to try to get kids to memorize.

Jesus says in John 15:14 that "Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you."  (KJV)

Finally, I came across these two verses from Jude 1:2, 21 this week:

I pray that God will greatly bless you with kindness, peace and love!  And keep in step with God's love, as you wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to show how kind He is by giving you eternal life. (contemporary English version)
I had a great feast last week on the word and feel as though I will be immersed in God's Word for the upcoming months.  I learn so much when I teach others!   Looking forward not only teaching Sunday School again, but also a Beth Moore study on "A Heart Like David's" and reading another Karol Ladd book, A Woman's Passionate Pursuit of God.
