6 Things I Learned This Week-#74

Just A Phone

Did you know there is a cell phone that is actually just a phone which is all we need and there's no contract! It's called the Jitterbug. Gerard found an ad for it this week. You can place and receive phone calls--that's it. The price is a little over half of what we are currently paying for our Sprint phones. When our contracts are up, we are planning to switch.

Blogging With Video

Did you know most people take time to watch videos on blogs? Thanks to my poll on here asking if you watch videos on blogs, I learned that out of the 16 who responded, 5 usually watch, 10 watch sometimes and 1 rarely. I guess it is worthwhile to post them. What do you think about them? Do you post videos on your blog? Do you make your own or just copy someone else's?  We listed some of our better videos on the right sidebar for your convenience.

Adopt A Cat!

Did you know June is adopt a Cat month! See what's available near you by using our Pet Finder widget on our left sidebar to search for available cats in your zip code area. Or you can also search for a particular breed.

Google Alerts Review

Did you know you can use a Google Alert to find posts that mention certain words? Through my Google alert, I found a post about my book: "In My Funny Dad, Harry, Karen Arlettaz Zemek Shows How Love of Family and Faith in God Will Get You Through The Tough Times."  Did you know there is still time to get in on the giveaway for an autographed copy at "A Special Father's Day Giveaway at Red Pine Mountain."

The Red Sox

Did you know May was a very good month for the Red Sox? they got back in the race and as of June 1 they are just 5 games behind. The offense is not as bad as some predicted and "Big Pappi" is heating up. How do you feel about your favorite baseball team?

Money Museum

Did you know there is a Learning Center and Money Museum free to the public inside the Federal Reserve Bank in downtown Cleveland? I just noticed it this week and decided to check it out. I don't know if all of them have a Learning Center and Money Museum or not.

I'm a little worried. I just put up a video on my latest post and it's 2:43 long. If I post videos at all, I like to keep them at the minute mark because I'm afraid people won't watch the whole thing. But this one is an integral part of the story, so I hope people watch the whole thing!

I have a cheapo phone. All it can do is take and make calls (and text). It's a pay-as-you go, too, so that means no monthly plan, no crazy charges. I pay a dollar a day on the day I use it and then ten cents a minute. My average cost per month is about $12 as a result. I can live with that.

To answer your question, nope. Don't have to buy minutes each month. I only go online to replenish when I get low. That's the beauty part. I only pay for what I need, and that always varies. I got the phone when I made my solo road trip last spring. I used it a lot then, but very little in the months after.

It's a Nokia phone through AT&T.

I don't even own a cell phone but that would be a good one if I were to decide to get one. And I actually neither post videos on my blog or watch them on someone else's, at least not 99% of the time. Good to know, though, that if I DID post one, people might watch it!

I came over from Mrs.4444's place to wish you a happy Friday!

I did know about June being Adopt a Cat month! I hope it's a big success and lots of kitties get furever homes!

We use the AT&T pay-as-you-go phones and I like them a lot. The calls are expensive (25 cents per minute) but we don't call each other much. I use it mainly when the kids need a ride.

And the best part--the kids can pay extra to have unlimited texting if they so choose. I buy the minutes for phone calls, but they can have many options for texting--which THEY have to pay for. Em chooses unlimited for $20/month. If she earns it, who cares, right?

Ok. I'm crazy..my cell phone bill is outragious..I have to have texting which is free; I must have the web and the music and we just have so many phones on our plan..oh well..I am working on it! Happy FF and I hope if you get the chance you will stop by.

That cellphone idea is a good one. That said, I wish my MIL would agree to getting a cellphone so that I and the kids could text her throughout the day. I think about her often but don't always have the time to call for a chat, but I'd like her to know we think about her often.

I love Google Alerts!

I have a very short video on my blog today. It's funny! I do post videos now and then, and I also watch them frequently on other sites. It's easier than searching for good ones on YouTube. I haven't tried Vlogging yet, but I probably will this summer. That said, I only watch short vlogs.

Have a great weekend!

I've seen the ads for Jitterbug. We were spending so much on cell phone charges, we went with a TracFone and we are just charged the minutes we used without any of those awful fees.

I wish I could upload more vidoes but oh, well, that's part of living in the country.

Thanks for mentioning the giveaway on my blog. Your book is fantastic.

Kathy: Not wo worry about your readers watching your video--we love you and you have many loyal followers. Trust me, they will watch! I never saw that kind of bird before.

The cell phone plan sounds good but I'm afraid if we had that kind, I would hesitate using it.

Kori: Thanks for stopping by! We've only owned cell phones for a year and a half. Our contract ends in December. We like having it now, we got spoiled.

Beaded Tail: Yes, I hope lots of cats and dogs find good homes too.

Lin: I considered AT&T pay as you go when we first bought phones but didn't want yet another thing I had to keep track of like when to order more minutes. I think having your daughter pay for the testing she wants is a fine idea!

Doreen: I can see how some people might need more phones. We don't use the web access on the phone or text either.

Mrs. 4444: If you mom is like my dad, she probably doesn't want a cell phone because she doesn't want another monthly bill to pay.

I'll have to watch your video now that I finally got new speakers.

MsBabyPlan: No problem. Thanks for stopping by here!

Mountain Woman: That TracFone sounds good too. I haven't heard of that one before. I really appreciate you promoting my book!
