New Food for Manny From The Natural Pet is a Hit With Spunky

Since Manny seems to be having some trouble eating lately, I thought his teeth may be hurting him so decided to try some canned food for him.  I went to The Natural Pet on Ridge Rd. today and they were very nice and eager to help by giving me five free samples plus $5.00 off for being referred by a friend with a full guarantee.

"I don't want that, mom.  Where's my normal food?"

Manny likes his dry food so I wasn't surprised when he turned up his nose at the Lotus Just Juicy Pollock Stew for Cats.  It looks good enough to eat to me, kind of like a tuna casserole.  Spunky thought so too.

Spunky liked, but Manny wouldn't even taste it!
I have to hold the dish while Spunky eats to keep her from eating too fast.  I knew she would like the canned food and gobble it up.  Even this way, I'm not sure she'll keep it down but I hope so.

More, mom!  This is good!
I have lots of other different flavors, maybe Manny will like some of them.  We'll see.

Figure Skating Pairs - Great Athleticism!

Shibutanis (sister/brother)

I happened to watch the U.S. Figure Skating Nationals yesterday and really enjoyed seeing the pairs  (I started watching late so missed the singles).  I was mesmerized by the athleticism involved in this ice skating event!  Some of the moves they do I couldn't even do on the floor of my living room!  I thought it was quite spectacular and also enjoyed most of the music that went along with their routines.  The two pairs I liked best came in second and fourth.  I was rooting for the brother/sister team, Alex and Maia Shibutani, because they did part of their program to a Strauss Waltz that was beautiful!  Hawayak and Baker was the other pair that I really liked a lot because not only were they doing impressive moves, but they looked like they were really enjoying it too!

See photos of Alex and Maia Shibutani.

See interview with Hawayek and Baker.

Did you watch yesterday?

Sunday Sharing: Sunday School Lesson on Hypocrisy

Today our lesson was on having integrity and not being a hypocrite.  The scripture the lesson was based on was Acts 4:32-5:11 about how when the church first started in its early days, the believers would share everything they had with each other and even would sell their homes and land and give the proceeds to the church to distribute to those in need.

Joseph a/k/a Barnabas because he was an encourager was one who sold some land and gave all the money from the sale to the church.  Peter was the one who collected the money for distribution.  Another couple in the church, Ananias and his wife, Sapphira, also had some land that they sold, but decided to only give part to the church and keep part for themselves.  This would have been okay IF they hadn't led people to believe they were giving the entire amount.

Were they really believers?  Were they possibly pharisees in disguise just wanting to look good?  Were they really believers but wanted the praise of men?  The Bible doesn't really say for sure, but we do know they lied about the amount they got for their land and both fell over dead on the spot, were carried out and buried next to each other.

I seriously doubt if any lying was done in that church for a long time after that!  Today, at least our church, does not really practice sharing everything we have with all the other members of the church; however, we do have a food pantry where people can get free food items that others have donated for those in need.  We often have mission projects that people give money to support.  I do believe everything I have comes from God and am willing to use it for His glory.

After we read through the story, I let the kids (and my husband helped too) use finger puppets to review the story.  They did a great job moving the puppets around, coming up at the right time and having the puppets face the one they were talking to.  Unfortunately, they didn't speak up loud enough for the sound to be good on the video so I had to do quite a bit of editing to it and added titles and text.  The edited version is above.

Another interesting part of the class was showing an excerpt from a Brain Games DVD about lying.  It showed four little kids in a room alone for 15 min. with a chocolate cake sitting in front of them and they were told not to eat any of it.  (They were taped with a hidden camera during that time.)  An interrogator came in to see if he could get a confession from any of them.  All said they didn't eat any of it, but three actually did.

Yea For the Buckeyes!

We are very happy the Buckeyes won the National Championship this year and watched most of the game last night.  I was very impressed with their third-string QB, Cardale Jones, and really enjoyed watching him.  I just wish the game didn't start so late because I had work the next day so went to bed in the 3rd quarter when the Buckeyes were ahead by just one point.  We taped it so I could watch the end of the game another time.  Manny Boy watched this game with me and let me pet him up.

Found a National Champion shirt on Amazon for Gerard:

Two days later when the temperature was -2, I put one of my OSU t-shirts on Abby for her walk, hoping it would help some.  She didn't seem to mind it and seemed to be able to walk just fine in it.
What's this for mom?

This May Have Been a Mistake (AWWW Monday)

Manny is lying on his new cat pad I got for him for Christmas.  I'm glad he is using it but he may just like it too much!  Yesterday he chose to lay on this all the while I was watching the football game instead of coming to lay on me.  Hmpf.  That is not what I had in mind when I bought it.

Manny says:  "It's no mistake, mom.  You finally found something I actually like!"  Thanks.  I still love you.

Joining up with AWWW Mondays.

It's a New Year!

We started our new year with a warm, raining day.  Went to lunch at Cracker Barrel with some money we got for Christmas, ordered more checks and Abby got to see her friends at the nursing home again after being away for a week with a sore leg.  It was nice having days off for the holidays and the days I did have to work were slow because a lot of others were off.  I got a new memory verse contest made for Sunday School--a dinosaur race track.  I'm pretty sure the kids will like it.  I found some small plastic dinosaurs at Marc's on clearance so bought them up to use for this.

Overall, 2014 was a good year for us and I really accomplished all the goals I set.   I am hoping this year will involve less doctor appointments and more strength training.  I am happy to have one less pill to take and feel good.  We are hoping the Patriots win the Super Bowl this year, but if not them, I'd like to see the Bengals, Lions or Panthers win it because none of those teams have been there for ages and they are all animal teams so I can't help but root for them.

Here is my short-term "to-do" list:
Get our computer tuned up/optimized.
Go through my old pics that I backed up on CDs and load some missing ones on my computer.
Watch some more Hallmark/Up movies.
Must say, life is good!  What about you?  Got any plans for 2015?

What We've Been Up To This Week - Friday Fragments

Friday Fragments is hosted by Half Past Kissin' Time for bloggers to post a list of short things on their minds that aren't really enough for a whole post.

Reading

First of all, at the end of the year we always review the lists of the books we've read and choose our favorites.  We post these over at our book blog (Grab a Book From Our Stack).  We had 18 books that we both loved this past your and listed them for you with links to our reviews.

Cracker Barrel

We enjoyed several meals at Cracker Barrel recently and when I washed my hands in the restroom, the water wouldn't come on. It was those automatic faucets where you just put your hands under them and the water is supposed to come out. People next to me had theirs working so I tried that sink and it didn't like me. I finally asked a girl next to me how she got that to work and she showed me the sensors and said I had to have my hands lower across from them. So then it worked when I lowered my hands--felt stupid but at least now I know.

Abby's Leg

I am pleased to report that Abby's leg seems very close to normal now after being at the full dosage of Metacam for a week and a few days.

Unique Shirt

My husband found the perfect t-shirt for me for Christmas and I love it! He was right that I never would have guessed what it was. I will be wearing this to our Children's Worker Breakfast at church coming soon.

Laughter

Two things cracked me up recently: First was when my husband started putting on MY black pants by accident, thinking they were his. I had them laid out on the bed and he picked them up and started putting them on!

The other funny thing was when we were walking the dog, Gerard said maybe the Browns would put in "Thigpen" but I heard it as "Pigpen" and busted up laughing, thinking of the dirty Charlie Brown character.

Sports

Of course, we've been cheering for the Browns, Patriots, Bruins and Ohio State. I am pleased with the Browns season because they did better than expected, only had one really bad game, and Hoyer is not hurt. They really need to get rid of those all brown uniforms they sometimes wear that they NEVER play well in! Unfortunately, when they lost their center, that's when the running game fell apart and consequently, led to their downfall. I never realized how important the center position was until this season.

Patriots still find ways to win and Brady is just a real quality guy, both on and off the field. I'd love to see the Bengals and the Patriots in the Super Bowl with the Patriots winning.

Don't know what happened to the Bruins; Gerard thinks they are getting old.

And finally, our Ohio State Buckeyes came through last night against Alabama. What an exciting come-from-behind win! GO BUCKS!

When channel surfing, I discovered a sport I never knew of before--red bull bike racing in Colorado.  These guys are dare devils and amazing with how they can ride these bikes down mountain trails the go straight down with tight turns and drop offs.  This blew me away.
