Happy Independence Day! (Writer's Workshop)

Fireworks are being shot off at 12:00 a.m. today and I am up typing this post because my dog won't let us sleep.  She keeps pawing at me, whining and barking if I ignore her.  I did get a bit of sleep on the couch after petting her for about an hour, but then guess what I dreamed . . . that I was kept awake all night by my dog!  My knees hurt so bad from being in one position so long that I tried going back to bed, but she started up again so I decided as long as I couldn't sleep, I might as well get up and do something.  Abby is now lying peacefully on the floor, not sleeping but at least not panting hard, whining, barking or pawing at me.

I just heard another BOOM!
I'm sure they'll stop sometime soon, right?  Then I'll be able to go back to bed.  At least I don't have work tomorrow, but I bet I'll be having the same trouble tonight all over again.  This is the only issue we have with Abby so I try to remember what a sweet dog she is and how happy we are to have her. First Peter 4:8 comes to mind about love covering a multitude of sins.  In this case, just one!

We wish all a safe and happy 4th of July and thank our servicemen and women who sacrificed to protect our freedom.

Manny wasn't in the mood for modeling here.

Spunky just wants to return to her nap.

Hope you will fly your flag today--we got ours from Walmart.

Do fireworks make your pets crazy too?

My dogs are so frightened too. They hide in the bathtub:)

My cat is even scared of the noise, and each time one is fired, she perks her ears, has that wide eyed facial expression and looks frightened. Happy 4th to you and yours.

Oh poor Abby! Dogs just don't understand what those noises are and it scares them so much. It breaks my heart! Angel hates fireworks and hides in the closet. Isabella isn't phased by anything but even she wakes up when they go off but she doesn't hide. I've heard that Thundershirts help dogs when they get scared like that so maybe that would help Abby. Hope you all have a safe and happy 4th!

They had the fireworks and so does our Little Bit. We left the island this morning and are back in the slip. The Hilton's of Hilton Hotels does fireworks near our island every forth of July. It's a huge show and very loud. We are in the slip so Little Bit will not be a nervous wreck.

Have a terrific 4th of July. :)

my Abigail freaked over fireworks and gun shots so I'd wrap her in a Thundershirt and she'd calm right down.

Think I'm going to try getting one of those thunder shirts, we're getting desperate!

Oh yes. I've definitely learned that dogs don't like fireworks. I was over at a friend's house that night and their dog kept barking at all the loud booms going on far away. But as soon as we started our small fireworks in the driveway, poor thing hid behind a tree! Felt so bad for him. Luckily we didn't have a lot, so it didn't last too long. :)

Our dogs hide from the fireworks and I can never find our cats on the 4th. No idea where they go, but I think it's safe to say they don't like them either. I'm glad your pup had someone to keep him company, even though it meant you need some extra nap time on a quieter day!
