5 Things We Learned This Week 40 of 2011 (animals, fires, stars, volleyball)

Hay Fires

If you are a farmer, this tidbit is for you! Over at Country Pictures, Lucky Lady mentioned about several barns in the area catching on fire. When I asked how that happens, she sent me this link: Spontaneous Combustion and Hay Fires. It basically says that you need to make sure your stored hay does not get too hot or it can burst into flames! If your a farmer, this article gives some tips on how to avoid this, worth reading!

Cleveland Zoo

The two new Grizzley bear cubs from Wyoming (Cheyenne and Jackson) have joined the two from Montana (Cody and Cooper). A baby capybara was born too. We'll have to go soon to see these new additions!

Pet Food

According to the label test, Abby’s dog food isn’t as good as I thought it was—I should have known when Giant Eagle had it!

Stars

All the stars have names--God calls them by name! We'll have a post up Sunday about how awesome God is.
Life your eyes and look to the heavens; Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing. (Isaiah 40:26 NIV)

Volleyball

Some people play volleyball using "rolling scoring" where teams can score even if they didn't serve. I never heard of this until this week when I went to volleyball open gym night at our church.

I always enjoy the theme of your FF, Karen--We are always learning. I didn't know any of these things, either!

We switched Cooper's food about a month ago for the first time in his life (possible newly-developed allergy to the old stuff). Not sure we're happy with it, so I will check out that article for sure. Thanks.

Love your learning.

I know you're happy for me that my Tigers won last night!

It's always a nail-biter, though!!!

Golly...that last fragment brought back fond memories of my more youthful days of loving the sport....volleyball. But I too have never heard of being able to score without serving. Hmmmm.

Love the new fur babies at the zoo.

I hope you get to go to the zoo soon to see the babies!

We've switched foods to grain free awhile back and it sure made a difference. The first few ingredients really are important!

I learned about hay catching fire when I was a kid visiting my cousin's farm. Ahhhh, such great memories--of the FARM, not the fires!

Mrs 4444: We just switched Abby's food--found some good stuff by Purina for dogs 7+. Also, the vet sold us some special Purina prescription dog food for joint mobility--she has some arthritis in her legs and hip.

Ann in the Up: Yes, I am happy for you and your Tigers--Hope they go all the way!

Hootin' Annie: I used to play on a sand volleyball team from work some years ago. Glad I brought back some happy times for you! Going to the zoo today!

Beaded Tail: I found some new dog food (see comment response to Mrs 4444). I'm giving Manny some new food too since it's just Spunky that has the sensitive stomach--although, the vet said she just eats too fast. The new food is smaller too so easier to chew.

Lin: You crack me up--glad you have fond memories of the farm!

Tettlestai: Glad none of your friends had hay fires; they sound scary all right. You should go see the new babies; they are always so cute.

Thanks for stopping by my FF! I like your lessons FF!
Love learning things...my dog has allergy issues and after trying and failing at so many products. I now make her food and it has helped a lot, but is a pain in the butt! Hope you find the right kind for your pup.

Have a wonderful Sunday!

Wow, great reading and an education, too!

I will have to look at that food label you link up to. Make sure my "boys" are eating ok.

Visiting from Friday Fragments...

Have a great evening!

Crazy about hay fires. It makes sense and I can see why they happen. Scary.
