Oh No! The Blue Screen Of Death!

First thing I said to Gerard on Friday morning, April 15, was “Happy Friday.”  His response was, there’s nothing happy about it (because the Bruins lost their first playoff game at home).

He was right though.  I turned my computer on as usual when I got up and couldn’t get it to boot up.  I got what is referred to as the “blue screen of death” with this message:

STOP:  C0000218 {Registry File Failure}
The registry cannot load the hive (file):
or its log or alternate.  It is corrupt, absent or not writable.

This was not a good way to start my day, but after about 4 failed attempts, I gave up and joined Gerard and Abby on their morning walk, had a longer devotional time than usual, and played a little pool with Spunky to try to relax and get rid of my frustration.  It really didn’t work, but Spunky was cute and made me smile!

I called PC Medic from work and decided to take it to them as quickly as I could.  However, I was very busy at work Friday so didn’t get to leave until 3:00.  Then I had to wait 30 minutes for the bus.  I unplugged the computer and loaded it into our car and off I went to PC Medic.  When I got there, the place was empty and closed up!  I walked up the street thinking maybe it wasn’t right on the corner like I thought.  Then a man in the barbershop next door saw me and called out to me saying they moved.  I asked if he knew where and finally got some good news:  they were just up the street closer to my house.

I finally dropped it off.  I was very glad to hear that it only cost $160 which included a better anti-virus & anti-spyware software program (AVG-$40) and would get it back Tuesday.  They removed my Norton and Webroot but had to wipe it all clean and then add back my stuff.  Unfortunately, I am now missing my Kodak software and have no document program so can't even open my documents!  ARGH!  Guess I have to buy some kind of office package--I think I had Microsoft works.

I was happy that I had scheduled posts ahead for my blog and that I could use a computer at the library while mine was being repaired.  I have no idea how it got these viruses.  I didn’t click on any bad links and didn’t install anything new recently.  It’s a mystery to me.

Computers cause so much stress and aggravation, don't they?  Yet, I love having it and missed it a lot!  What causes you aggravation?

Oh noes! I'm glad your computer got all fixed again. When we used to do Entrecard and visited a lot of different blogs, we got a virus and had to reformat the entire computer.

That would not be a good way to start the day but glad you got it all fixed up! Computer troubles always cause me aggravation but yet I can't live without one. *sigh*

I use Foxit Reader for my document reading since I can't download Adobe on this tiny screen. And Open Office is better for me than Microsoft's bloated program. It is a pain to be without a computer-------for sure!

There is tool Digeus I recommend it when there are problems with windows. I also recommend to use Windsty Tune Up Suite. It fixes registry errors which will speed up your computer.
