7 Things We Learned This 13th Week of 2011 (poll, comments, Firefox, animals, blogs)

Comments

I was surprised to learn from our poll that most people (20 out of 29) do check back to view comments in a day or two after they leave one. I generally don't but did a couple times this week. I usually leave my email when making comments, but not always. If I'm in a hurry, I'll sometimes just use the Google thing which does not show my email then. I guess it is worthwhile to respond to comments with a comment on the blog then so I will continue this practice.  I always respond by email if I have the email address.

We are pleased to say that we got 500 comments during March (No, we didn't, April Fool!) but seriously, we did get 317 so will donate $159 to Canine Lifeline.  For April, we will donate 50 cents per comment to Samaritan's Purse to be used to send supplies and relief to Japan to help with the recovery from the earthquake and Tsunami.

Firefox 4

Thanks to Kathy over at The Junk Drawer, she gave me this link that tells how easy it is to move the tabs down if you prefer instead of having them at the top: How To Change And Move Firefox 4 Tabs. That right click sure is helpful! All you do is go to the end of the tab row, right click and unmark the "tabs at top" option.  (Thanks, Rebecca, for letting me know the link to the post wasn't working--it's fixed now.)

Cats and Dogs

I'd LOVE to go to work with Gerard!

When playing the Free Kibble Trivia, I learned that 1 in 5 U.S. companies let employees bring their dogs to work and studies show that the humans are happier and more productive!! We can't bring Abby to work with us; can you bring your dog to work? This is a statistic that I definitely question.

I also learned that the Detroit Tigers have a cat mascot! I like that!! Now I like that team more! So glad baseball season has started again--now that is the final sign that spring is here!

Check out the pet adoption story contest over at Freekibble.  The winning story will be published April 8.

New Blog Views

Photobucket

Over at April Showers Blog Design I learned that there are 5 new views we can choose from for viewing Blogger blogs. Check out her post: Cool New Ways To Read Blog Posts. I don't think I like any of them. Have you tried using any of these new views? What do you think of them?

Thank you, thank you! I did not like having the tabs way up there at the top. Have a great weekend!

Congratulations Karen on the amount of money you raised. I didn't even get half the number of comments you got but I managed to raise some money and I'm trying again this month.

i think pets at work would be wonderful!! i would be happier with a pet around. okay, maybe not in the restrooms, someone needs to tell my dog that one!

i am going to play around with the tabs stuff and things at that blog site. thanks for sharing!! i like to mess around with stuff like that!

i didn't get to vote, but i usually don't check my comments, i get emails to find out who else responded so i can go interact with them. weird huh?? have a great weekend!!

Kathy's second link is not working. Thought you'd want to know.

I have a plugin for a few of my blogs that allow me to go back and leave a comment response AND the plugin will send the response in email form to the commentor, too. It saves so much time. I don't think there's anything like that for Blogger, though. But that's how I respond, now. It's one of my favorite plugins because it makes common courtesy and gratitude very easy! :D

I have read that fact before about animals in the workplace and I have to agree. I would totally be happier at a job if their was my dog or someone else's dog there. I think it would definitely be a more relaxed/stress free workplace. Plus everyone would be happy!

Have a great weekend!

Noooo!! Don't like the Tigers! It is just a raggedy old cat costume! Nothin' like Slider!! Noooo you can't like a team in the same division as The Tribe!! lol. As you know I now live in Michigan after moving away from Cleveland in 2001....I admit to wearing Tigers garb (as long as the Indians aren't in town) and I always feel as if I am "cheating!!" lol Gooooooo Tribe!

One in five seems like a really high percentage... Where my Mommeh works, they allow the people in the Admin side to bring their pets, but the people in the area where my Mommeh works cannot.

That's a great donation! I'm surrounded by my pets at work but yet I work at home! Back in my office in Colorado they bring their pets in sometimes. One attorney used to bring his Rottweiler in every day and another attorney had a huge white dog that looked like a St. Bernard but he only got to come to work on the weekends. Everyone in the office likes their visits though!

Karen,
Glad I could be of help.

Mountain Woman,
This is the most comments we've received so far! I think Abby's posts helped take it to over 300. Also, I do have 4 blogs although this is the one I get the most traffic to. I don't post near as often on my pnn one and "My Funny Dad, Harry" so don't get many comments from those. If you do the blog hops I find those are the days when I usually get more comments. I do Writer's Workshop, Tuesday Teasers and Friday Fragments. I have to take time to visit others in the hop and comment, but most do generally return the visit. You may want to consider doing something like that. Oh, and there's also the Bloggers Over 40 that you could try.

Whatever you get, it's an additional donation that they otherwise would not have gotten so look at it that way. Also, somehow you should include that you are doing this at the end of each post or display it somewhere on your blog so people can see it. I referred several over to you because you were supporting the vets on posts I commented on related to soldiers or the war.

Don't give up, hang in there! Abby is thrilled with the amount we raised.

Tettelestai,
I love my pets around me--even in the bathroom! Glad the tab info was helpful, sorry the link wasn't working--it's fixed now. I get the email notification of comments to for my own blog. I was wondering if you revisit the comments you leave on other blogs to see if there's a response or any more comments.

Rebecca,
Thanks so much for letting me know about my broken link. I had to wait until I got home to fix it but it's fixed now. That plug-in sounds like a nice one!

Ruth Ann,
I've dreamed several times now that I took my cats to work with me, alas, but only in my dreams. I would love working at a place with pets, but I would probably be quite distracted. Although, at home I pet my cat all the time while I'm on the computer. He lays in the chair right next to me so I can easily reach him with my left hand while I work the mouse to scroll down with my right.

Cat Chat: Maybe you are right! I was disappointed when I saw it was just a person dressed in a costume. I thought they had a real tiger like my husband's alma mater does--Benedictine. They bring a tiger cub to the games and I actually pet it!

Daisy,
Maybe your mommy should ask for a transfer to the other side! I think I would.

Beaded Tail,
It would be nice to work from home! That's wonderful though about the law office letting them bring their pets in. I'm really surprised at that! Maybe there is hope for me yet!

I am one of those very lucky people that gets to bring my pets to work. I work with the elderly and they love my little dogs.
Thank you for everything you do for Gods precious little furry creatures:)
