7 Things I Learned This Week #91 (coma, cats, bones, toilets, cake, contact)

Coma

I learned that a friend of ours who served with us on the puppet team at our church, Brad, is facing a very difficult time. He is only in his 30s, has a couple little children and his wife had a serious seizure last weekend and was in a coma with no sign of any brain activity.  She went to be with the Lord Wednesday morning. Visit Brad's Blog to encourage him and please pray for him and his family.

Cat Nutrition

Over at The Conscious Cat's "Cats Are Not Small Dogs--Especially When It Comes To Nutrition" I learned that we shouldn't just feed our cats dry food (which we do) because they need the moisture from canned food as well. Manny didn't care for the canned food after he had his teeth out and Spunky Doodle eats it so fast that she regurgitates it. I'm not sure what to do about this.

Citracal

I found out that my bone density is worse than it was last year in spite of taking Citracal which was recommended to me by one of my doctors. Have a vitamin D deficiency--just not enough sunshine here.

State Cats

Playing Freekibble trivia yesterday, I learned that three US States have Official State Cats: Maine, Maine Coon; Maryland, Calico; Massachusetts, Tabby.

Toilets

Over at The Jammie Girl in her post about Mutant Ninja Squirrel Suicide I learned that some roofs have toilet vents that critters can crawl down and wind up in the toilet! I hope I don't have one! So far, so good.

Free Cake

Giant Eagle didn't charge me for the strawberry pudding cake I got on Wednesday for my Bible Study. I didn't notice it though until I looked at the receipt the next day! I guess I'll take the receipt when we shop on Saturday and tell them, but don't want to get the cashier in trouble. Gerard says I should just forget it. What do you think? What would you do?

Contact Problem

Paula Kriger's bargain got the most votes but her Blogger profile is private and I don't have an email for her so can't contact her to get an address to send her my book. Hopefully she'll see this and email me at myfunnydadharry[at]sbcglobal[dot]net by Monday. If not, I will pick a random winner from those who left comments on both the bargain post and my skunk invasion post. UPDATED 10/17/10: I heard from Paula and will mail the book to her tomorrow, Monday. She said I made her day and she is a reader.

Find more Friday Fragments or link up yours.

My Mommeh used to feed dry food and thought she was making a good choice. When we got Harley she switched to a holistic vet and he spoke with her over 45 minutes about cat nutrition! Ever since then we are off the dry and we are much healthier. The moisture content in canned food really helps with bladder and kidney health. There are lots of good books about pet nutrition. I have some on my Amazon widget if you want to see the titles.

Maybe you could just experiment with different brands to see what kind Manny will like and Spunky Doodle won't gobble down. Our current favorite brand is Weruva.

I'm so sorry about your friend's wife, very sad.

I hope I don't get a critter in the toilet, so far, so good here, too.

About the cake, if it were me (and since you asked) I would just point it out at the next trip to the store. The cashier shouldn't get in trouble, mistakes happen. They will probably just give it to you anyway;)

My cats get dry food in the morning and wet food at night and they both drink plenty of water. It seems to work out ok.

My heart goes out to Brad. It is times like that when we really need the Rock of Ages.

Thanks for the information on cat nutrition. I am still baffled about what to feed Livvy-- something that costs less than my mortgage, anyway!

I have a cat that regurgitates, too. Maybe feeding your kitty only a spoonful of food will help?

Sorry to hear about your friend's wife. My thoughts are with him and his family.

There's so much information out there about cat and dog food that it can get confusing.

I've never heard of critters ending up in toilets but hopefully I don't ever find out about it first hand!

We feed out cats the wet variety, but the dry for luring them when we need them to come in.

I thought I felt something nipping at my butt the other day. LOL

Thanks for visiting my blog and playing along on the movie list. I forgot about Brian's Song...love that movie too!

I am so very sorry for your friend...I had seen a link to his blog on another site and will continue to pray.

Oh my gosh, that poor family! My heart breaks for the children. I am sending them prayers asap. Will go to the blog too. Thanks for the heads-up.

I think you have to try different kinds of cat food. My cats are VERY fussy and they get wet food on the weekends as a treat. You have to waste a lot of cans to find out what kind they like--there are all sorts of textures out there (chopped, flaked, etc) as well as flavors.

Forget the cake. Just think of all that over-priced merchandise they sell to you over all those years you've been shopping there. I'm sure there was a double-charge at some point--so just call it even. Unless, of course, it was REALLY expensive, like $200 or something!

When I was a young girl, I read about alligators being found in toilets and ever since then I've had a fear of finding an animal floating inside the bowl. Now I shall worry about squirrels :-)

Would adding a little bit of chicken broth in cat food help?

I'm sorry about the Vitamin D problem. Would lifting weights help increase your bone density?

And I most certainly will keep Brad and his family in my prayers. I'm so very sorry.
