6 Things I Learned This Week-#70

Binky Fairy

Every parent needs to know about the Binky Fairy when it comes to to take away the binky. I learned about this at Ma, What's For Dinner's post about it. You tie the binkies to helium balloons and let them go. The Binky Fairy then plants the binkies and they grow into trees producing more binkies for others to enjoy. Then the Binky Fairy returns with a gift for the brave child who surrendered their binkies. I bet you didn't know this!

Networking Site For Authors & Readers

At A Book Inside I discovered that because ning is now going to charge, The Author & Book Event Center site has moved to http://bookeventcenter.spruz.com/. This is a place where authors and readers can get to know one another and people can get their questions answered about book publishing, editing, marketing as well as discuss books.

Woodrow For Governor

Woodrow, a dog, is campaigning to be the next Governor of Texas! See for yourself at The Next Governor Of Texas Could Be A Dog. He is running as an independent and hopes to get some write-in votes.  I found this piece of news when playing my Freekibble trivia.

Picasa--Photo Software

In my blog exploration this week I discovered a interesting post layout at Twinsomnia: Deep Thoughts While Fingerpainting and in reading the comments, Megan shared that she used Picasa, a free photo editing software download. This is the first I've heard of it.

Maids in Mississippi

From reading "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett I am learning a lot about unwritten "rules" that maids were expected to follow and that segregation was quite extreme in Mississippi even during John F. Kennedy's administration.  For some reason, I thought that the mistreating of blacks as low life was longer ago in slave days.  Although this is fiction, I am learning a lot from it.  The main story line is that one of the white ladies gets the maids to share with her what it's like being a maid and how they feel about things so she can write a book about it.  I'm enjoying it and am halfway through--it's a long book.

The Innocence Project Helps Correct Another Wrong

Raymond Towler freed after 29 years in prison for rape he did not commit
Just yesterday I saw in the PLAIN DEALER that another innocent man, Raymond Towler, accused of raping a girl was finally released after being wrongfully imprisoned in Ohio for 29 years! The Innocence Project helps prisoners falsely accused of rape by getting DNA testing done that wasn't available back when the crime was committed. This man was jailed when he was 24 and is looking forward to starting a new life. I wish him all the best!

Hooray for DNA testing! How terrible to spend so many years in jail for a crime you did not commit.

Hooray for the man that finally got his life back, I just wish it would have been sooner, poor guy.

A dog for governor? I suppose there are definitely worse candidates!

I'm rooting for Woodrow. That made me laugh out loud.

Have a terrific day and weekend Karen. :)

Is it bad that I think a dog might be a better governor than most politicians?

I use Picasa to sort and tag my photos on my computer, but I like Picnik.com for the editing. It has a lot more options than Picasa.

I'll bet that dog will give the others a run for their money!

The Binky Fairy didn't go over well here. We ended up cutting holes in the binkies until they were down to nubs and no longer worked. Kendall was not happy!haha

I'm happy for Mr. Towler. He looks like a good man, even in spite of what he's lived through these last 29 years. Want to hear a crazy story? A man who lived near here was cleared of a rape via The Innocence Project. A couple of years later, he kidnapped, brutally raped, and killed a beautiful young girl who was a friend of a friend. Turns out, he had a long history of sick, perverted behavior before he was ever arrested the first time. Such a sad story...

(So sorry for the link screw-up this morning. Made me MAD!)ch a sad story...

Daisy: It always upsets me when I hear about such an injustice and knowing the real criminal got away with it.

Tortuga: Thanks for stopping by and taking time to comment. Maybe they could do a movie about dogs ruling the world--have they done that already?

Sandee: I'd vote for Woodrow. Glad I could brighten your day.

Mub: I think it would be funny but a sad state of affairs if the dog won. I use Kodak Easy Share.

Mrs. 4444: I wonder what they would do if the dog won. I thought that Binky Fairy was a good idea. That's awful about that other guy that was set free who attacked that girl! I sure hope that doesn't happen often. I support the Innocence Project now.

Thanks so much for the shout-out!! I like Picasa b/c it is sooooo simple to use. Less is more, in my world. :-)

Isn't the Innocence Project wonderful? Can you imagine being in prison or facing the death penalty for something you didn't do?

I think my shepherd,Lilly, should run for sheriff. We already call her the Enforcer so I can see a dog running for office and he might do a better job than the incumbents.

I'll check out the book too.
