Best Mom Ever! by Gerard

This post is part of Mama Kat's Writer's workshop in response to the "Memories of Mom" prompt. Since I wrote about my mom the last years, this year it's Gerard's turn to share about his mom:

We used to play Rummy and Bunco a lot.

We used to watch The Waltons, Little House on the Prairie, My 3 Sons, Polka Varieties and movies together every night.

She took me to Indians games often and the wrestling matches at the Cleveland Arena.

I remember there always seemed to be big snow storms on her birthday (Jan. 25).

We went to Red Barn for chicken every Sunday.

We planted flowers together and she taught me how to clean the house.

We always went to church together.

She made delicious stuffed dumplings with peaches; they were SO good!

She always planned big birthday parties for me growing up and would make me big cakes.

She always gave me Easter baskets with a big chocolate bunny rabbit in them.

She would take me to the beach sometimes when I was little. I remember my big blow up shark!

My mom and dad were called Mr. and Mrs. Popcorn because they worked the popcorn stand at my high school basketball games.

My mom and I got along great. I have lots of good memories of her and wish Karen and her would have been able to know each other. I miss her very much!

Hope all of you have a happy mother's day!

Gerard did an outstanding job in this tribute to his mother. Moms are just plain special. I miss mine very much too and I wish hubby could have known her as well. They would have liked each other very, very much.

Have a terrific day. :)

Amanda & Jessica, I'm a Full-Time Mummy: Thanks for stopping by and taking time to comment!

Sandee: I wish I had known his mom too, but then it may have been a problem since his parents were both strong Catholics and I wasn't. We had enough trouble with his sister accepting me as part of the family. Although, he tells me she would have liked me. I'm not so sure though since it seems she was big on baking and I don't cook or bake at all. She probably would have wanted a more domestic woman for him, but maybe not.

Angie: Sure do! Thanks for stopping by.

Beaded Tail: I think she sounds like a very good mom and a nice person. I wish I had known her.

so sweet and what a great mom. I love the nickname's Mr and Mrs Popcorn - so sweet and fun that they were involved i your high school.

This is really sweet. I'm glad Gerard had such a great mom. I'm sure she is the reason he picked such a winner in you :)

Karen,

That was so lovely. Gerard's tribute was so fantastic and what a wonderful tribute to her. He was very lucky to have such a great Mom and I agree with him - she'd be so proud to have you as a daughter in law and to see what good care you take of each other.
