Chirp, Chirp--I Sing Because I'm Happy

Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.--Matthew 10:29, 31

With Spring comes chirping birds. I remember how my bird, Blue Boy, used to chirp when I played the piano and how I was so surprised how much I missed him when he died. He was just a little blue and white parakeet, but I got attached to the little thing.

When I first dated Gerard he had a bird named Dickie Bird, also a blue and white parakeet. I was impressed with how much he talked to that bird and cared for him. Dickie Bird was our first pet, before we got Moe, our cat. Dickie Bird used to swing on his swing and chirp every morning when the sun came up. He loved the sunshine! He would also walk along his perch bobbing his head to the music on the radio. Again, it was a sad day for us when Dickie Bird died. Gerard buried him in the back yard and we plant flowers there, referring to it as “Dickie Bird’s Garden.”

It never ceases to amaze me how loving God is that he sees the little tiny sparrows.
I had a bit of a hard time getting a good picture of them. They are so small and don’t pose well for the camera. They tend to fly around a lot and don’t stay in one place for very long. Yet, God notices them! I remember my mom telling me about a big lady who used to sing a song with this verse in it and it cracked her up. The name of the song is "I Sing Because I'm Happy" and here are the lyrics:

Why should I feel discouraged
Why should the shadows come
Why should my heart feel lonely
And long for heaven and home
When Jesus is my portion
A constant friend is He
His eye is on the sparrow
And I know He watches over me
His eye is on the sparrow
And I know He watches me

I sing because I'm happy
I sing because I'm free
His eye is on the sparrow
And I know He watches me (He watches me)
His eye is on the sparrow
And I know He watches
I know He watches
I know He watches me

I think of all the people in the world, and all the little sparrows and just marvel at the fact that God watches all of us. Whenever I hear birds chirping, I think of God’s care for them and for me. How about you? What makes you marvel?

I like how they all sing to welcome the morning light and the sun coming up. Oh, to rejoice in the promise of the day!

Sweet stories of Dickie Bird and Blue Boy. Funny how each life, no matter how small, can add so much to ours.

I marvel at just about everything. Birds are a biggie for me too. It's easy to marvel at all the wonderful things that surround us.

Have a terrific day. :)

I love that song! I sometimes wonder how God remembers little bitty me but I sure am glad he does. He even knows how many hairs there are on my head!

I remember that song very well and it makes me feel bad when I try to swat those flies, they also are watched over and if I kill one of those bees it bothers me, but they should fricking leave me alone then I wouldn't have to.

Ah a lovely song. :) I think it may have the official title "His Eye is On the Sparrow." Larnell Harris did a beautiful version back in the 80s.

We have a cockatiel. I have learned to absolutely love birds.

What a beautiful post, Karen, full of sunshine!

I was outside just a bit ago enjoying the multitude of bird song and being grateful for where I live.
I grew up with 2 parakeet- but no blue and whites!

I love your post. Just a few days ago another of my blogging friends posted part of that song as her Facebook status. Funny, because I've had to focus a lot lately on God taking care of me since my life is a wee bit off track right now, so the message is something I need to hear. And God knows I don't always take good advice the first time I hear it.

Jodi: Glad you like it!

Lin: Each day truly is a gift from God! Glad you liked hearing about our birds. It is amazing how such little things can have such an impact on our lives.

Sandee: Amen, you got that right!

Karen: We have a great God!

Jude: I don't feel bad at all swatting a fly in my house because he shouldn't have come in. Nor do I feel bad about stepping on a bee because that's one less that I have to worry about and it won't sting anyone.

Mrs. Mecomber: I didn't know the official name of the song, thanks. Those cockatiels are pretty big! That's cool you have one for a pet.

Dogsmom: Sounds like you had a nice time outdoors with the birds.

Tina K. Glad I could be encouraging to you with this post. Sorry to hear things are a bit off track for you right now and hope everything gets back to normal soon for you. God bless!

How beautiful and inspiring. I marvel at all things in nature but random kindness makes me marvel all the more. Listening to the news sometimes I forget just how gracious the human spirit is (a reflection of God's love).
