7 Things I Learned This Week-#68

Garden Ponds

Duck and Wheel with String
I found out that in order to keep the water cool and clear of algae, you must have the water's surface covered about 60-70% by plants. I love little garden ponds but I am too lazy to put in the work it takes to maintain them. If you're thinking of putting one in or have one, be sure to check out Lin's post, Yes, the Frogs Really Do Sit On The Lily Pads over at Duck and Wheel with String.

Sisterhood Of The Shrinking Jeans

I just learned about The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans this week from The Daily Tribal--Lent & My First Vlog. She shares how the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans helped her lose weight in her first vlog which is very well done and entertaining. I think you should check it out and if you are trying to lose weight, The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans may be helpful--it's free!

Printing Blank Calendar

I learned how to print a blank monthly calendar this week from Outlook at work. You go to "File" on the tool bar, "new," "new folder," (give it a name--I named my "blank"). When I want to print an empty calendar, I can use that blank calendar.

NFL Schedules for 2010

NFL Schedules for 2010 are now available. We checked www.clevelandbrowns.com to find out the Browns (my team) play the Patriots (Gerard's team) on November 7. You can choose any team schedule you want from there--they are all listed under the "Schedule" tab.

Breast Cancer

The reason I have all these follow-up doctor appointments is because Breast Cancer is most likely to return in the first two years after treatment; therefore, the doctors want to keep me under surveillance just in case it returns. I don't have to go again until the end of August for another mammogram and to see the surgeon, and not until October to see the other two doctors and get another bone density test done.

Femara

I did get some good news from my doctor last week that next year there is supposed to be a generic form of Femara, the expensive prescription drug I have to take for five years.

Nursery Fairy

From reading Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams I learned a Nursery Fairy comes for the old, worn, well-loved stuffed animals and makes them into REAL animals! It's a cute story and one every parent of young children should read.

And thanks for passing it on!
I'm not good with Outlook, so thanks for the calendar tips!

I love The Velveteen Rabbit! What a sweet story.

Be careful with that generic version of the medicine--they don't all work. Just be aware of that. And if it doesn't work, be prepared for a huge battle with your insurance company because now they are refusing to cover the name brand if the generic is available. Just a heads-up.

I learned the calendar trick this year too--it is very helpful!!

The Velveteen Rabbit is one of my absolute favorite stories. It makes me cry all the time. And I'm misting up just thinking about it!

Gee, thanks for the tip about the calendar! I don't have Outlook, but Windows Mail has a calendar, and I forgot all about it. I've been using an OpenOffice calendar template and it's been a pain to use. I'll use Windows Mail calendar from now on.

The Velveteen Rabbit has always been one of my most loved books.

I read in a local organic gardening magazine that there are new aerators for ponds. They are filled with barley (they look like balls) and you just put them in and they keep ponds clean and they are cheap. I was thinking of giving it a try on my horse troughs.

Mountain Man will be thrilled when football starts again!

P.S. - I'm glad you found a generic for your medicine and you are always in my prayers that your cancer will not return.
