7 Things I Learned This Week-#67

"Read More" Break

I discovered that the "read more" jump break that I see on a lot of blogs is available in Blogger thanks to a step-by-step post at Everyday Living. Here's the link if you are interested: How To Use Jump Breaks In Blogger. I had to add some more code to my layout HTML to get it to work because I had a custom design done. I'm using it on my older posts to help with loading time if they are long because as a reader, I don't like to have to click for more. Does it bother you?

Vermont Is The Least Religious State

I was surprised when Mountain Woman from Red Pine Mountain told me that Vermont is the least religious state. She sent me this link to USA Today which lists all the states in order. Mississippi is the most religious.

Good Use For Little Tins

Controlling My Chaos shared what I think is a great idea this week in her post Crafty Storage For Small Things. She suggested using small tins for those card games that are in boxes that are falling apart. I have a few of those and some small tins I didn't know what to do with. Now I do!

Woo hoo! On Tuesday this week I noticed I hit 100 followers on this bog--yippee! Thanks to all of you who follow this blog. You make me feel good!
UPDATED 6:50 P.M.Oh no, I see I just lost a follower today so now I'm at 99.

Abbreviations Parents Should Know

Raising a Quiver FullThis week over at Raising A Quiver Full: Get With The Lingo I learned that "PAW" means Parents Are Watching; "P911" means Parent Alert; "AITR" Adult In The Room. At netlingo you can find a whole long list of abbreviations used in texting.

Mining Tragedy

In the PLAIN DEALER this week it mentioned that The West Virginia Council of Churches is accepting donations to distribute to families of the miners that were killed in the explosion at the mine. You can contribute at wvcc.org, call 304-344-3141, or mail it to: Montcoal Mining Disaster Fund, WVCC, 2207 Washington St. E, Charleston, WV 25311-2218.

Friday Fragment Blog Hop

Since I'm always up for learning new things, I thought I'd give this a try when I came across it at Half Past Kissin' Time today. If you want to see more Friday Fragment posts, you can visit these blogs from here and even add your Friday Fragment post. Please let me know if you decide to visit any so I know if this is worth posting in the future.

UPDATED: 6:50 P.M.I tried this but took it off when I got home because just as I thought, there were a whole bunch (40) and it took up way too much room. Plus, it made it hard for anyone who wanted to comment. I usually get lots of comments these Friday posts and I only had two! So here's the link to more Friday Fragments at Half Past Kissin' Time.

I didn't know about Vermont. Wow.

Have a terrific day and weekend. :)

That was an eye opener, regarding Vermont. It was interesting to see that the top three are all in New England. If I were to have guessed, I would have picked California or Nevada as number one.

I don't like the read more button, just another "trick" to send readers away..but on older posts I think it's fine..

I didn't know about Vermont and Mississippi being at the opposite of each other in religious..

I don't like the "read more" button. That scares me--like there is going to be pages of reading ahead. I rarely click on it.

Congrats on your 100 followers!! Isn't that exciting??! I am always thrilled to see a new follower and saddened when I see one leave. I'm forever trying to figure out who bailed on me! Isn't that weird?

All: I was surprised at that list of religious states too. Very interesting!

Tahtimbo: I would have had California or Nevada at the top too.

Lin & Mumsy: I hope my "read more" doesn't turn you off. I just figured it might help with page loading and save time scrolling to see what other posts I have. I know how you feel though because I have a similar uneasiness with them. Thanks for your feedback, I really appreciate it. I think my next opinion poll will be a yes or no question just asking if readers clicked on the "read more" button. If people don't, then I won't use it. It's nice I can just insert it into posts I want. My current practice is to leave it off the most current post and just use it on older ones.

Lin: It is exciting to reach blogging milestones but I'm not going to worry about losing that one. I figure maybe they just quit blogging or deleted their blog. It's not because they don't like me anymore--at least that's how I choose to deal with it.

Congratulations on your 100th follower! I know in Word Press mine was showing as click to read more and I don't like that either but it's changed now.
I don't think in the olden days, Vermont was the least religious state but it is now and I won't begin to describe it in a comment but it's really sad to see Christ tossed out of lives. Coming from a Southern Baptist environment where church is the center point of lives, it was really a rude awakening as is the Christian prejudice.
Thanks for the information about the miners. What a horrific tragedy.
