7Things I Learned This Week-#53

Movie: "The Blind Side" about Michael Oher

Saw a fantastic movie New Year's Day: "The Blind Side." It was a movie about Michael Oher ("Big Mike"). Gerard read the book too! Such an interesting story of a boy from the projects that no one seemed to love or care about and how one family's kindness to him turned his life around. I never knew anything about this person until I saw this movie based on his life. One of my co-workers told me she saw this too and heard him do an interview, saying that most of the movie is accurate except that he knew football and didn't really have to have a 12-yr-old kid explain it to him. That was one of my favorite parts of the movie though.

Blog to Book

Through SITS at Scary Mommy I found out how she turned her blog into a book on her own through the website: http://www.blurb.com/. This is awesome! Lots of work, but then what book isn't? The best part is you have total control on layout, content and it's under $100!

Alternative to Wordpress

At Freaky Frugalite: Making More Blogs For The New Year I first heard about HostGater. She has one of those affiliate links for anyone wishing to change over to that and offers her assistance. I like the cute little Gater logo and IF I did choose to leave Blogger, I think I'd go with HostGater over Wordpress. (I think "Wordpress" is a boring name.)

Healthy Challenge

Over at Recipe Girl I found a 10 in 2010 get healthy challenge for anyone who would like to participate and join in this support group. Each Saturday she'll be posting about the challenge and participants can interact and motivate one another through Twitter using the hashmark #10in10. It's just doing basic things like drinking more water, eating fruits and vegetables, avoiding sweets, exercising 3-4 times a week, and getting enough sleep (should get 8 hours).

Toys

When visiting "I'm Living Proof That God Has A Sense Of Humor" I learned that the Barbie doll has a dog now . . . that poops! This post is hilarious--a Must Read!

Cleveland Browns

The good news is that Holgrem is keeping Eric Mangini as the head coach for next season. The bad news is it looks like they will lose Josh Cribbs, the best player EVER because they don't want to pay him what he feels he deserves.

Makes me kind of sad to have he Barbie stage behind me.

A pooping dog? I shudder to think of what will be next.

I just *met* "The Domestic Dork" (although in my book, she's a DIVA!) today on SITS. Isn't she awesome???

And I'm also bumming about Josh Cribbs-- he went to Kent, I believe, so he has a long history with NE Ohio. He deserves to make more. He's my favorite Brown since Dennis Northcutt, who also left cuz they wouldn't pay him!

LOVED "The Blind Side." Think I'd really like to read the book. Speaking of books, I'm going to check out blurb.com. Would be cool to make a blog book at the end of each year. I hate Wordpress. I know most people think it's the bees knees, but I just don't like it. Finally, will check out the recipes. I'm participating in the BetterU heart healthy makeover and I need all the help I can get! Happy FF!

I'll have to check out "The Blind Side" - sounds intriguing!

I just moved my blog, but while I'm using Wordpress software, I'm not hosted at Wordpress (I hear there can be limitations and issues) so checking out self-hosting is definitely your better bet! :)

I have that Barbie - it is hilarious! :)

I saw a preview for that movie and am anxious to see it! I need to find out when it'll be released here.

Thanks for the heads up about HostGator, I'm going to look into it!

My husband loves those Cleveland Browns.

And I'm tempted to go to blurb and turn my blog into a book.

Happy SITS Saturday Sharefest!!

The blog to book is such a great idea, isn't it? I heard about Blurb awhile back but I'm actually in the process of doing it with Blog2Print, which is essentially the same things as Blurb. It is very time consuming but it'll be fun to actually have a book in hand as a keepsake!

I still haven't seen the Blind Side, though I really want to. I have a feeling it'll have to wait until it's on DVD!

Thanks for the shout-out! Glad you liked the Barbie post!

Daisy: Glad you went to look.

Recipe Girl & Holly: You're welcome.

Won: I remember we used to have a doll that wet. You dumped water in through the mouth and it came out the other end.

Confessions from a Working Mom: Northcutt used to be my favorite Brown too--I had his jersey too.
$1.4 million a year doesn't sound so bad to me, but then I guess others make up to 6 million a year. Poor athletes, how do they manage with such low salaries!

Amy & Mountain Woman: Good luck on making your blog into a book--does sound pretty cool. Glad you stopped by and I could be of help.

Stacy: The Blind Side was great! Played with that dog lately

Fruitful Vine2: I figured lots of people are trying to get fit and this may help.

Mub: I saw the previews of the movie on TV and that's why we went to see it. Good luck if you change over to Host Gator.

Whispering Writer: Hoping the Browns make the playoffs next year and dare I say, win the super bowl! Go Browns! They better keep Cribbs though!

Ruthi: Thanks for coming by!

Helene: I wonder if Blog2Print looks as good and how much that is. We usually wait for movies to come out on the DVD too, but this one I really was anxious to see and I wanted to do something special on New Year's Day to start the year. I tweeted your Barbie Doll post too--hilarious!

I'm honored to be a part of your Things I Learned week! I like these posts, because I always learn stuff, too!

Wordpress is a weird name, lol. I don't know where they got it! I have a new blog where I write tutorials all about how to make a new blog, install it, etc. You might like it if you are curious. I don't want to be rude and leave a link here... so contact me or leave a comment at my blog and I can tell you.

Have a blessed weekend!
