3 Things I Learned This Week--Part 44

Little House On The Prairie

I learned from reading Prairie Tale that Melissa Gilbert's brother played Willie on Little House On The Prairie and that she had quite a difficult time in real life.

Skunks

(photo from Wikipedia) When Gerard was walking Abby one morning, she found a skunk and went right up to it but fortunately, it ran off without spraying them! I thought, what if they did get sprayed, I wouldn't know what to do to get out the smell. Then yesterday in the CLEVELAND PLAIN DEALER there was a big article on critters which included how to get out skunk smell according to wildlife-removal.com: Shampoo with a combination of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and liquid dish soap. Flush eyes out with water if sprayed in that area.

Cab Fare

Just a 20 min. drive from downtown to my home cost $35 by cab now! For more detail, see My Terrible Tuesday post.

Tomato juice works too. My dog always used to get sprayed by skunks and we would use tomato juice.

I had no idea that Willie was played by Melissa Gilbert's brother. Talented family! Yes, I agree with Tammy in using tomato juice. It takes forever for the smell to go away totally. What a pain it is when that happens. Our Boston Terrier greeted a skunk once.

Interesting Karen. I just started watching Little House on the Prairie series DVDs. I loved the show.
We had a skunk in our yard for the first time a few nights ago and luckily he didn't spray. Thanks so much for the tip and I'll have the necessary supplies on hand.
Wow, what an expensive taxi ride!!!

I loved the Little House series and show--we were all glued to the TV when it was on. I didn't realize Willie was her brother, but I did know she had a tough time. I'm glad she wrote a book; I'm sure it will be well-received.

Fortunately, I've not needed skunk spray remedies :)

And cabs are such a ripoff.

Good grief cabs are expensive!

My parents dog got sprayed by a skunk and I PRAY that it never happens again... because he got sprayed and then proceeded to run through the house getting skunk smell everywhere. Ugh it was foul! He's an Old English Sheepdog so we called the groomer and asked if they dealt with that stuff and they said yes but they usually shave them first. We said "PLEASE DO!!!"

Emmy & Karen: Yeah, I heard tomato juice works too.

Mountain Woman & Mrs. 4444: We always used to watch "Little House On The Prairie." Gerard even has a doll collection of some of the characters from the show. Glad your skunk didn't spray.

Mub: That would be really bad to get that smell in your house! Never saw a bald sheepdog, bet it looked kind of funny!
