Smart Goals

I found a good post about making New Year's Resolutions at Life's winks, blinks and tears...: Life's Winks - New Years Resolution. We need to think more in terms of goals that are measurable, simple, attainable, and time bound.

Here are the ones I came up with:

1) Take the stairs between floors at work rather than the elevator.
2) Read at least 50 books again this year.
3) Do not spend any more on any marketing endeavor for my book.
4) Keep on learning new things and continue to post them weekly every Friday on this blog.
5) Continue to write down the sweet things Gerard does.
6) Install CommentLuv on my blogs.
7) Join that gym and actually go 2-3 times a week.

Fantastic list. Just one suggestion about the exercise. Don't overwhelm yourself at first and then get frustrated and give up. The stairs are a good idea, then walk a little farther and then farther and pretty soon you'll be running miles at the gym. Exercise classes are also fun and motivating.
Happy New Year to you!

Hi Karen and Gerard,

Happy New Year!

I forgot that S means specific (can also be simple though, I'll change that on my post today).

50 books in a year? That's great! I have to go back and allot more time for reading books this year. :)

Thanks for linking my blog and I hope that we both meet all our goals for the year 2009.

If you have read much in the self improvement arena, then you have probably heard about the ‘SMART’ acronym. The problem comes when most people never think through their goals. They’ve mistakenly believe that just because they have the goal in their mind or they write it down on a piece of paper, it is automatically going to be accomplished. You must have much more intentionality if you are ever going to reach your goals.
